I really like this line they have come out with picked up the .45 full version and just love this gun got it because I had a Taurus millennium 45 it was garbage my mistake and me and my father in law are always competing to see who can get the cooler gun and glad to say i'm winning because of this one....alittle of topic though i have put close to a thousand rounds through this gun and havent any FTE or FTF and wanna know why people think the glock is better then this gun and would have to strongly disagree but i wanna here others on the subject

I'm actually looking hard at the MP40c for my next conceal weapon. I had a glock 19 at one point and couldn't get comfortable with it so this should be an interesting read for me.

The M&P has been hugely successful for the reasons stated above. I never even considered a "plastic" handgun until I picked up one of these in a local shop. Now I have three.
p.s. The only common gripe on these ( well documented on two dedicated M&P web sights), is that the trigger can be gritty out of the box. However this is real easy to fix with parts / procedures readily found on the net.

Funny, I've remarked numerous times that the M&P is like a "better-feeling Glock." I had a 9C myself. While the slide is (IMO) unnecessarily bulky for a 9mm, thereby making it a little less comfortable to carry IWB as well as making it balance a little "top heavy", particularly as the magazine empties, this is forgivable when it has 100% perfect functioning.

I suppose its human nature in order to validate their choice/selection/opinion they praise one which diminishes the other. Owning both Glock and S&W polymer framed striker fired pistols I appreciate both the pro and con attributes of each.

It is fair to say that the M&P is the third rendition of the polymer framed striker fired pistol for S&W.

If I were to select one pistol in 45ACP my preference would be the S&W99-45ACP-AS (AS= Anti Stress Trigger). This does not diminish the current S&W –M&P series or the current Glock pistols. I’ve stated my preference with out being demeaning of what other individuals may select.

I just got the M&P .40 full size. Fantastic gun! I got it with the Crimson Trace grips.

I love my M&P 40. After I got it the USP, and G19 never came out of the safe. I've never had one single problem with it.

I have owned near 10 M&P's and have some that will never leave my possession. Just picked up a 5" 40 Pro for shooting IPSC and couldn't be happier. In my opinion, there is no better polymer pistol than an M&P with the Apex fluff and buff treatment.

I have two M&P40s. I love them. I have a 357 Sig barrel and just picked up a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel and 9mm mags. Three calibers out of one gun. With that said, my second M&P40 I just picked up from a pawn shop for $350. It did not take me long to find out why it was there. It has the drop mag problem. Here is a link that is 34 pages long that will explain what I am talking about. It can get depressing but some estamate that it is only about 20% of the 40's.

I have a new mag release on the way from S&W on their dime. I was hoping it would be in the mail today.

My first M&P40 is one of the earlier ones and I have had zero problems with it. The mag release / catches on both of my guns seem to have the same wear and tear on the metal tab. I was going to swap them out and try the second gun with the first gun's mag release but I haven't had time to get out and shoot due to weather.

Both of mine are full-size 40's. This seems to be more common with the compacts and the 45's seem to be immune to the problem completely. I have problems when I shoot both the 40 and 357 Sig rounds and no problems with the 9mm barrrel.

I love this gun. It makes me a better shooter than I realy am and it is very left-hand freindly. I was in the market for a compact but have backed off until I can get the dropped mag issue taken care of. If I found another full size or a 45 at a pawn shop for $350 I would buy it in a hart beat.

Welll doesn't that suck for XDM, Glock, FN....I shoulda known that FN woulda submitted a crappy FNp-45 to the DOD as a military grade combat pistol....

To the OP: Enjoy your MP its a great gun...odds are you will not shoot it enough to see the quality differences, if there is any, between brands.

Congrats on your new M&P.

HK, M&P, XD, Glock, FN are all great guns. I am an HK fan as that is what fits my hand and shoots best for me. Your best gun is the one that does the same for you.

First off, you have no idea of my level of collection and the thousands of rounds i put through them.

Second, yes it is my opinion.

3rd. They are all good guns, you are hard pressed to find a bad gun from the major manufactures nowadays but although they are good, some are simply "GREAT" I have owned FNX 45, Glock 45 in different sizes as well as the Xd (not the XDm yet)

for real resting, tons of ammo, and not being treated like a Faberge egg, the 220, M&P and HK are simply not going to be beat.

I sell them, i shoot them, i rent them. a lot of my posts are simple facts and not simply what i own.

I ordered an M&P 40 last week, after a months-long selection debate on what would be my one full-size gun purchase this year. It beat out the Glock 22 because I just can't get excited about buying a Glock for some reason. They just don't fit my hand as well as the M&P's I've played around with in stores (I've sent a lot of rounds downrange with Glocks to form that opinion), but they're good guns. Can't wait for the M&P 40 to get here so I can wring it out at the range, might even try out some IDPA events with it later this year.

When I take my wife's M&P line apart to clean I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming that SW took parts from Glock and put 'em in their guns....

I love my wifes m&p 9L...she out shoots me any day....but she shoots a lot.

well i like al these posts and it looks like we might some good discussions forming here but just to shout it out there im a fan of S&W but like many other posts all guns have their good quality and bad but the M&P series i can't seem to find any flaws and will be getting a M&P in 9mm bc its such a great gun

I had a full size M&P .45 for a while. Great gun. No complaints. I've still got my Glock 21, though. Fits me better and lots more accurate than the Smith I had. I can see why some like the M&P better, though. Slimmer grip, more art in the design. One reason Glock owners are vehement is the 30 year track record.

Now I'll make a blanket statement. Glock just has the best double stack mags there are. Everybody else basically uses an adaptation of the Hi Power mag (ok, except H&K). Some are good, some are not. The M&P mag is prob the best of these.

I just field stripped, cleaned and lubed the wife's M&P9c, getting it ready for a range trip with some new loads I worked up for it.

Previously I've fired it a bit and I'm impressed with it. I was just thinking last night that I wished they'd make it in 10mm.

Don't know what's up with S&W and the 10mm, they had such a good thing going with the 10xx's series years ago. At least from a consumer point of view.

But a M&P 10mm in both full sized and compact and a 10mm series in 1911 would be a seller for me and many other 10mm fans.

I've probably got a .45acp in my future, just not sure if I want to go FS or Compact.

I've owned a few Glocks, the M&P ergonomics alone are enough to sway me.

Congrats on picking a fine gun from a good company.If you havent figured it out yet there are die-hards from every major brand that will say there gun is the best including glock.I honestly think it all comes down to what you like in a gun period.Glocks do have a great rep for being very reliable guns that are durable and easy to maintain but the M&P's also seem to be reliable as well and look great.Im sure if you asked the HK and Sig fan clubs they will say the same thing...and truth be told there both right as well.Ive tried the M&P,Glock,XDm and think there all good shooters.A good friend of mine has a Sig 226 and will not part with it...ever.Your M&P will last a very long time as long as you take care of it.Me myself? my guns are like my ex-wife....not pretty at all but ALWAYS said yes! glock 17 and glock 21.Hope that helps and good shooting.

I have an M&P 40 and M&P 40c that I carry. I like them better than the Glock because they feel better in my hand and for me they point more naturally. Once I added an Apex carry kit to make the trigger pull and reset better it has a better trigger than I have ever seen on a Glock.

That said, they are both excellent guns. The ergonomics are different but they are both pistols that you can do just about anything with and they will still be accurate and function well. If I was a shooter that was new to the Polymer pistol market I would go to the fun store, pick up both guns and see which one felt best and pointed best. The gun that fits you is the one to buy because ergonomics is the main difference between these two guns.
