I'm hoping you guys are in the know about this. I'm in Afghanistan right now and I've been told Smith and Wesson is offering a 40% discount to active military. Somebody I work with showed me an application to take advantage of this deal, but it expired in December 09. Is this an on-going offer? Is there a new form out there to use it? I've emailed Smith and Wesson, but haven't gotten a response. I've been eye-balling a 327 Night Guard and 40% off would be a pretty big break for the combat pay I've saved up for this.

I'm not familiar with the form you are referring to, but several manufacturers discount their products for active military as well as law enforcement and other first responders and sometimes retired military too. I've heard that S&W limits these discounted purchases to 2/month. The form you saw might just be something the specific dealer uses. You'll have to submit qualifying credentials at point of purchase.

They killed the deal. It was not really a very good deal. The prices ended up being lower than most local stores, but more expensive than many competive gun shops, shows, and online retailers. I've seen it discussed on the M&P pistols, which were ~$20 higher on the mil program than retail, and on the 22lr ar-22 type, which was the same as they are retailing for at gun shops. You can order through buds police supply if you need a online retailer, they were cheaper on the models I compaired than the 40% off deal.

Smith now does a rebate program on their M&P line for members of the military, if I remember correctly. There is information on their website. Can make for a good deal if you shop around and find a good retail price, then get the rebate.
