Are you sure that isn't a 6" barrel?

Most of the 5" barrels had ramp sights and not patridge sights. Either way, it's a fine revolver. I actually prefer the 6" with patridge sight to the 5" with ramp sight.

Bullseye, How can anyone not love that graceful beauty. :) Not correcting your message. But your revolver is a Deluxe model it has the wide "Target" trigger and "Target" hammer and "Target" Grips. A nice S&W 27 2 with the "3 Ts".

Nice find and I am glad you found a way to get it . It is hard finding away to buy a gun this time a year , but you don't run across 27's all the time , especially a 5" .

Congratulations, and great find.

I've owned three or four 27's over the year. A -2 with both 5" and 3.5" barrels, a "Pre" with a 5" barrel, and a -9 "Classic" with a 4" barrel. All great guns. I sold the first three during a time of "personal economic downturn" (lost my job) and sold the last one to get something else. I'm more of a K-frame guy really.

Barry the Bear

Fantastic find, and a 5" barreled version! Perfect; one of the all-time classic .357 revolver. Good move with putting it on layaway too; I definitely wouldn't have left that pawnshop without locking that gun up.

Yes it is a 5 inch , measured it myself . I was enamored with the front sight myself, it is my belief that it was changed out at some point.

Did you measure from the end of the barrel all the way to the face of the cylinder? I'm not trying to be contentious, but it really looks like a 6" to me.

For reference, this is my 6" pre-27:

And this is my 5" 27-2:

If you compare the distance from the end of the lug to the end of the barrel in these photos (or the end of the Smith & Wesson lettering) to your photo, yours looks a lot more like my 6". That being said, it would be far from the first time I misidentified something from a photo!

Either way, sweet revolver!

Hmm.... Perhaps it is a 6 inch barrel. Regardless it should hunt fairly well.

My personal preference runs to the 6 or 6.5" barrels with the patridge sight over shorter barrels with a ramp sight. It would definitely make an excellent hunting revolver. Have fun with it!

I love my 27 5"! I am sure that will make a great companion. Mine is so accurate and is beautifully made....However after all the picture of the 3.5's, I think the search is on for one of those....

Darn........it's threads like this that ruin my day. Sold my 27-3 early this year to buy something else in a fit of insanity.
