Okay, so who owns and/or shoots one of the Scandium .44 Mags? I handled one in a shop; lust at first sight. It looks cool, it's lighter than either my Government Model or my CZ-97, and it felt good in the hand.

Unfortunately, it'd probably beat the crap out of my hand, and then it wouldn't feel so hot.

The wood grips look nice, but an exposed metal backstrap on a super-light .44 Mag? Methinks not.

I'd probably want to replace those grips with Pachmayr Decellerator or Legend grips. (The Legends have wood in them and look nicer.)

I'm liking the 4", full underlug look as well. The barrel profile is very appealing to me, and the color scheme looks all-business.

Smith & Wesson, on their website, list the weight as 26.5 ounces.

The standard 629 stainless steel model weighs in at 41.5 ounces, a weight difference of a full fifteen (15!) ounces!

So, anybody have one, and has it given you carpal tunnel yet?

seems like a silly idea to me, unless you do a lot of hiking in brown bear country. and even then, it doesnt seem big enough ;)

although i love the way it looks.

i really want to get a 5-6'' ful lugged 629 and cut the barrel down to 4'' though. then maybe have it coated black.

hey, i'd like it

With decent .44 Speical loads, it'd make a nice carry piece for those who like to carry N-Frames. It'd probably be a lot easier to pack than the heavier guns.

Still, I'm thinking this gun would more cool in .45 Colt and .45 ACP.

And eight-shot .357 would be nice, too, as would a 10mm. .41 Mag might be interesting; you'd even feel those 175 grain Silvertips out of this hog, wouldn't you?

yeah, I want one, too. I am thinking that Keiths at 1200 fps make more sense than stouter loads, though.

There is also a Mountain lite .44 special in town, which is the K frame 5 shot model. It's light, too, and cheaper.:)

just bought a 396 its a 3 inch titanium 18oz 5 shot .44 special. Shot my buddys quite a bit. Recoil is pretty snappy but not to bad. We were shooting 428421s with 7.5 grains of unique. Seemed about equal to a heavy .44 mag load in a steel gun. Nice packing gun though throw it on your hip and you dont even know its there.

The 329 felt alot better than a mountain gun. Recoil seemed to ride better and the trigger was alot smoother. I would change grips though, the wood stocks are pretty, but rubber would be easier on the hand.

Hey thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I'm pretty busy as of late with school and all (in Marquette), but perhaps in the spring.

Anyways, I'm thinking Pachmayr American Legend or stright-up Decellerator grips would be a good idea on this revolver.
