Does any member know anything about the S&W Model 4040, 40cal.
I know that it was made from 1991-93 and was discontinued because S&W said no one wanted a DAO back then.

There is almost nothing on the web that I can find out about this pistol.
I welcome any info.........

Are you sure that you're talking about the 4040? The 4040 is a more modern gun that came out about 3 years ago. It is also traditional double action.

You may be thinking of the 4054. That is a DAO gun from the early 90's.

I just purchased a 4040PD. It's a scandium framed, melonite, single stack seven shot. My dealer said it was only made from 2003 to 2005. It's a very similar pistol to the 3913, which is one reason I bought it. It is light weight, very accurate, and slim. In an IWB holster, it conceals easily. It was a little pricey, for me, at $550 OTD.

Thanks Thaddeus Jones, now I know a little more about the S&W 4040 then I did before.

I did call S&W (800.331.0852) and they indicated it was made from 1991-93 and was discontinued due to lack of interest in that DAO pistol, of course I did not have the serial number or the pistol in hand.

I hope to go back to my local gun shop the first of next week, look at it better and make an offer, I've had good luck with deals and am a good customer (hope that helps).

By the way are you glad you bought the 4040 ?

Yes, I'm very glad I found the 4040PD. I wanted one when they first came out, but could not justify the high (IMO) price. I am in a better financial position today, so I treated myself to it. I'm still in the process of getting used to it, and finding leather ect. The pistol has functioned perfectly, and fits my hand great. I'm a revolver guy, mostly, but there are times where my attire requires a slimmer, lighter handgun. If you look in the classifieds here, there is a picture of a 4040PD which sold this week. TJ

Thanks TJ, the 4040 looks like a cross between my model 410 and model 469, now I know a little more and am looking forward to making as best a deal as possible next week. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the info on the S&W. Yesterday I bought the S&W4040PD at my local gun shop.

It was brand new, never sold, born 11/26/03, complete in box. Great looking
Black AirLite pistol, makes a fine addition to my other S&W pistols.

I guess the main reason I could'nt find any info on web was because I only looked for s&w 4040, should have looked for "S&W 4040PD" but never-the-less thanks for all the expert posted information, you all were right on.

Now I look forward to time at the range with it.

You can go to the smith-wesson forum and click on autos and then click on the find link-type in 4040PD and get all the great info you need on it. I love mine and it is my CCW carry piece since I got it a couple of months ago. Good luck with yours.
