I was given a smith & wesson airweight 38 spl CTG that was my grandfathers. I know it is a mod 12-2. It has 4 in barrel and the number on the butt of the gun is #3D36030. I would like to know its approx age, frame, approx value if in good shape which it is, and whatever info you can tell me about it.

thank you

It was made in 1977 or 1978 (the sources I consulted differ, a common situation). It is a K frame, like all the other M&P variations. The term "Airweight" was used by S&W for all its alloy frame guns, so it is not model or frame specific.

Current value in new condition would be around $450.

A word of caution - fire only standard velocity .38 Special loads in that gun. +P or +P+ ammo will (not might) damage the frame.
