Hi all,
20 yrs ago I purchased my S&W 38 spl ctg from my uncle, I am trying to find out an approx mfg date, rarity and value.
1.75 inch snub nose
Airweight non metallic frame
6 shot
Marcas Registradas
Springfield Mass
D712958 on bottom of walnut grip frame

He had told me it was a police chiefs model
Any help would be greatly appreciated

CTG = Abrevation for Cartridge.
As in .38 Special Cartridge.

It has nothing to do with the name or model of the gun.
Just the caliber it is chambered for.

Your gun is a Model 12 .38 Military & Police Airweight.
It was made in 1974-75 time period.

If you open the cylinder and look inside the frame cut it will be stamped Model 12-2.

It is not extreamly rare, but is much less common then the steel frame Model 10.

I can offer no openion on value without knowing more about the condition.
Pictures would help with that.

And it has nothing to do with being a Police Chiefs model.

The Chiefs Special is a 5-shot J-Frame, a much smaller gun then your K-Frame M&P.
