Smith & Wesson Model 60 Pro Series

I was at a gun show not long ago, and had the fortune of handling one of these. Boy was I impressed! The stocks felt great, the whole gun looked great, factory front night sight, and all in a relatively compact platform. It looks to be exactly what I want in a combination of concealable carry revolver and fun shooting revolver. And being that it's a Smith & Wesson, and in the Pro Series at that, it's one of the few guns I know I don't have to bother asking about its quality. That being said... do any of you guys have experience with them? One issue I've found is left-hand IWB holsters for the 3" barrel Model 60 are pretty scarce.

If it had just been a picture online, I wouldn't want to spend what they seem to go for, but after getting to hold one, I could care less about the price tag. But being able to find holsters it a must.

The current MSRP for the 60 Pro, SKU #178013, is $779, while the least expensive 60, a 2 1/8" fixed sight, SKU # 162420, MSRP's at $729. The extra $50 MSRP of is well worth it - the grips will cost you that or more delivered. I love my 60 Pro, bought new 1/11. They run ~$650 locally.



Now, some will love the Tritium Night Sight - like the Night Guard series come equipped with. The silver ring is hard to see in daylight, as the sight is inset into the black ramp. For that matter, the 'glow' is pretty dim in total darkness - it isn't a high point in my book, but I like HiViz sights. It seemed to have a better trigger out of the box than I would have expected. Great hand fit - and recoil, with +P 158gr LHPSWCs is easily acceptable. I don't keep 'real' .357 Magnums for personal or home use, but I imagine it would not be as much fun to shoot any more with them.

S&W has OWB holsters in RH & LH in their accessories listings for 3" J-frames.

I have concealed carried my older S&W 60 3"FL more than any handgun I own. It is the last one I would part with.

My wife has a 60 Pro. It is a wonderful pistol. It is a wonderful shooter. The grips are great. The front night sight is a nice touch.

I did a complete trigger job on it using my fine and ultra fine arkie stones. A wolf spring kit and j-frame bearings for the trigger and hammer. Had to do a slight detail to the crown. It had a tiny bur from the sorry American machine work and QC. Put a slight polish on the chambers and a very quick lap on the barrel.

The only issue with the weapon is the side plate fit is not perfect. I wanted to refuse the pistol for that reason. Bought through a local FFL from Lipsey's. (great deal) But the wife fell in love with it and as a mother saw it as character.

It is her first pistol and she has had to learn a lot. And has been a real good trooper. She helped me a bunch with the action and detail work. And cleans her own weapon.

I love the way the pistol shoot's. Full .357's are a joy to shoot. She had trouble the first time out with the mags. But has since settle right into them.

She is a small frame gal in her mid 50's. I am whats left of a big guy in bad health. Just torn up from head to toe from living on the wild side. After the first outing she learned not to be decked out in her rings. The range is not a place for vanity. After much practice her and the 60 Pro have become one.

It's a fine weapon, and all business!

She has some psyiscal health issues. It's been a challenge to work shooting with them. She has delt with them well.
