I've been hunting a 1911 for a while and a friend of mine has a Smith & Wesson SW1911 he wants to sell with two mags for $550. It's the basic Government/5" barrel/blued finished/rosewood grips. I'd say the gun is 90-95%. Just some slight wear on the slide and probably about 500-1000rds. Good deal?

That's what I figured. I just haven't seen many used ones to get a good idea of price. I'm going over on Thursday to give it a 50rd test run.

Probably a fair price, and maybe a steal, depeding on what guns sell for in your area.

I have 2 S&W 1911's and consider them the best of the guns in their price range.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I definitely didn't get my SW1911 for that inexpensive...

Well I got it!!! $550, included a Blackhawk RH Holster (too band I'm am lefty), and two 10 rd Chip McCormick Magazines. When my buddy bought this, the guy had 10x 8rd Wilson combat magazines. My friend sold them off for $10 each at a gunshow to help pay for the purchase.

I shot this today(75rds) and I must say I really liked it. I know it has some non-1911 features on it, but it is still great. I will say it did not like Winchester PDX-1 45ACP 230gr BJHP from Wal*Mart(impulse buy, it just happened to be there, so I wanted to try it). Maybe it was the ammo more so than the gun, but it was terribly inaccurate. It still fed every round. The WWB and Federal target ammo was 100% and as accurate as I am. I'll be hunting a good SD round for it over the next few weeks.

I'm ordering up an ambidextrous safety, 1x8rd Wilson 8rd mag, leather holster, and magazine pouch in the next few days. Except for the safety, my plan is to keep it stock.

Nice buy! I shot one for the first time a month and a half ago. The only word to describe the SW1911 is sweet. It felt and shot great in my hand. The owner of it said he couldn't stop it from shooting 6" low, but I had no problem with it
