The X frames, at least in .460 S&W ( I haven’t shot a .500 S&W) are pretty darn tame due to the weight of the gun and a very effective muzzle brake. Now for the blast coming out of the thing, different ball game all together, it can blow the hair on a buzz cut.

Actually, I can't take this reply serious. lol Calm down. I routinely fire my 460V one handed... all 5 rounds of UW Hardcast. The only revolvers I have that give me knots in my palm and lingering pain for days is my M&P 340CT with 158 grain loads.... so I use 125gr 357 loads with it... and my SW 329PD 4"... it's not fun to shoot full power loads so I load plinkers way down for this gun.

I used to throw over 400 up on the bench not too long ago. I still got some strength left... besides, it's all technique. Every friend I introduced the x frame to did way better than they thought they would.

I don’t have a S&W in hand to compare with. My SRH Alaskan has the barrel integrated seamlessly into the frame that has to add a lot of strength to the overall design. I’ve shot a lot of OMG rounds out of it both factory (Buffalo Bore) & my own 325gr Barnes A-Frames over 26gr H110 with zero mechanical issues, just a sore hand the next day.

I’ve always preferred S&W’s over Ruger revolvers, based solely on looks. Both the 500 and 460 are fun. The 500 is an older model that only has a compensator, she bucks quite a bit.

The only gun I have that id say is punishing is the 329 pd with the stock wood grips. Far worse than my 454 or either of my x frames. And I have shot it close to 100 rounds in a day.

As far as the x-frame I had a 90lb woman shoot mine with 250 grain xtp over 100 rounds. Looked good doing it too. It's not bad at all

My 6.5 inch 500 weighs 64 ounces, exactly the same as my DW44VH 8 inch. Ruger fans will point out how much heavier the SRH is than a smith 29, but think a 500 is too big. BFR fans think 500s are small. I have a sw69 that’s a joy to carry. There’s a perfect bowl of porridge for every Goldilocks, we are lucky!
