Smith & Wesson's M&P: what do yall think?

I traded it in on an XD Service 9mm. That long trigger reset is taking a bit of getting used to.

Zenner, the XD can be made to shoot as close to a single action as a action trigger can get...even a bit better than an M&P trigger...not by much. The guys shooting XDs in our uspsa club are very happy with it. I've shot them and I have to say they really are amazing. With the right trigger job the reset just kind of disappears. Well worth the investment. I still prefer the M&P because the take down lever on the XD jams my thumb on recoil but either one is a great production class blaster!

M & P

after I had a complete action job done by Dve Bowie on my M & P. I have to say this is the finest shootin handgun I have ever held in my hands. Love the gun, hated the trigger when I bought it, Bowies work is totally awsome.

Well, I wanted to tell everyone thank you for all the advice and knowledge about the M&P.

I just picked up a brand new M&P9 at the gun show today. I cant wait to get to the range and try it out. I love the way it feels in m hand.

Once again thank you all :)

Congrats redraidermgr.

Welcome Surfinguru.

It's interesting, the M&P seems to dodge a lot of the flames MOST other pistol lines get; a lot of the attention as well. I'm sure it's a fine pistol, just thought I'd share. I don't know much about the M&P, but it was a consideration when I was looking for a polymer framed pistol for my wife.

I rented a G19 (my front runner for a new, 9mm, IDPA and carry piece) back to back with a M&P9. After shooting both, I ordered the M&P. It felt better in my hand, it shot better, and when I added up the accessories I'd need for the Glock (real sights, extended mag release, slide lock), the M&P is a great deal!

Can't wait to get it, I already ordered a concealement holster from UBG, and a paddle holster from Comp-Tac

Yeah, the gun feels great in my hand, better than any "plastic" pistol ever has. I finally made it to the range today and tried it and I love it. My wife was putting 3 to 4 rounds in the same hole even. I think it is a great gun.

I told the guy working the range that I had just got it and he just shook his head and said, "you should have gotten a glock or an XD, none of the guys winning competitions use the M&P." I told him I dont care what wins competitions, I care about what I like. That at least made him think for a minute.

But yeah, I definitely wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I really love the gun and believe that I will be enjoying it for many years to come.

You should have been here in the fall of '06. Man.... there was nothing but bad-mouthing coming out of Glock and XD fans' mouths about "The New Sigma."
This was when the issues with the weak 9mm extractors was being worked out. Smith had started replacing them with the 40 extractors, but you'd think it was all over for them the way people were talking.

I had already purchased one after taking a dislike to the chamber design on my Sigma 40. The M&P felt great and I've never looked back. THe guys at teh range looked at me funny too when I showed up for IDPA with it. "Should have bought a Glock." As if.....
It took another 6-8 months, but the M&P started to take off, buoyed by the Revision N frame and the new extractors. Not to mention the $399 price tags and other promos. The 2 extra mags+$50 promo really hit it off with buyers. I wish I'd had the money then to get a second one.

Once the testing started with PD's around the country, the M&P was a winner.

That's silly. Everything I've heard says that more and more people are switching to the M&P from Glocks and XD's. Sounds to me like M&P has established itself as the thrid major player in the market. I'll be interested to see if in another 2 years we talk about the SR9 the same way. I kinda hope so. they're nice pistols.

Yeah, I kind of laughed him off. The range I went to is predjudiced towards glock and XD because they sell them where they dont sell the M&P. Most of their rental guns are glocks with a Mark II ruger .22 and a few .45s and a ruger SR9. Maybe they havent tried it objectively or maybe it is better business to ignore the M&P because their Contracts are with some other manufacturers. It all really doesnt matter to me, I am very happy with my choice and have heard nothing bad about the M&Ps from anyone who has one. Will I win the guy from the range over? I doubt it. Do I care what he shoots or recomends? not really. Maybe one day he will open his mind and try one.

Bought an XD and an M&P in .45 at the same time, later sold the XD, still shooting the M&P every week.

and said, "you should have gotten a glock or an XD, none of the guys winning competitions use the M&P."

My son won Gold Medal twice in the Florida Sunshine State Games and I know two class "winners" at major uspsa matches shooting the M&P. Its a great gun and the trigger is so good that alot of guys are now beginning to add magwells and highcap mags and shoot it in Limited Class. The M&P is not slouch!

I know that and you know that, but they dont deal in them so they dont "recommend it".

Congrats to your son Babalouie. I remember when you posted the pic earlier in this thread and I forgot to mention it then. I doubt I will ever have the skill to shoot competitions but I am looking into intro classes to improve my techniques.

I have always been a rifle shooter and have had a S&W M19 revolver that I learned to shoot with but this is my first auto and I am still not as accurate as I would like to be. I figured I would be better off getting a pro instructor rather than teaching myself with my limited amount of time that I get to go to the range.

That is so NOT TRUE!!!!

One of the greatest things about uspsa clubs is that anyone at any level can shoot. My son started when he was 14 and it took 3 months of walking the courses of fire and shooting slow before he stopped shaking after every stage. He is now 18 and is a B Class Production shooter...he's actually ranked 10th nationally as a Junior...brag, brag, that's my boy :D The other really great thing about uspsa is the people involved. We never felt anything other than supported and welcomed in our club...Of course showing up with a 14 year old is as good a showing up with a puppy, everyone like you  Everyweek we have new shooters who keep at it and within a very short time become good marksmen. Do yourself the best favor you could and find a uspsa club and take that M&P, 5 or 6 mags and go have a great time!

My DH loves his M&P 9mm but is finding that the full-size isn't quite as easy to conceal as hoped. No matter what he does with the positioning and cant of his IWB holster, the gun but protrudes just a little. Its best at about 4 -- 4:30 with maximum, butt-forward cant, but that little protrusion into the plane of the overshirt is still there.

Since he likes the gun so much he's considering the compact.

this is especially true. never in any of my past hobbies have i met such helpful, kind, and trustworthy folks. can't go anywhere else with your keys and wallet casually tossed into your bag and not think twice about it.

Just sold my M&P 9 C and bought a Glock 26. For me the Glock is easier to conceal and there are an abundance of after market parts and accessories.

There is a couple USPSA in my area that I have found. I know there is IDPA at the Range that I went to and I even know a couple guys that do it but I haven't had a chance to make it to either of them. I will definitely look into them.

look at the xd m

If you want to send one my way free of charge I would be glad to check it out

I dont have a lot of spare income and dont get new guns often. This is my first truely brand new gun ever and the first one I have bought in nearly 5 years.

I took my Sig P226 and my M&P to the range yesterday. Both are .40 S&W. I was shooting next to a lady shooting a Baby Glock 9mm. We started chatting and I let her shoot my M&P as she's interested in getting a full sized handgun. She put ten rounds right into center mass at 25 feet no problem. She has no formal training and has only been shooting for two years. She really liked the M&P. She said it was like shooting a 9mm. She never even felt the difference between her nine and my .40 S&W with regard to recoil.

She left before me and was looking at the M&Ps in the case as I left the lanes.

I was jealous of the size of her baby Glock, so I bought an M&Pc .40 S&W yesterday.
