While the trigger was as bad as I'd heard and the polymer was really innovative at the time, the thing that caught my eye when I first shot one...both semi and selective...was the front sight.

Up until then I had never seen a front sight where you lined up the negative (shadow) image in the rear sight.

The 3-rounds burst was fun, but since the stock was basically unobtainium it was a deal breaker

Gentlemen, I humbly disagree with those of you who say the VP70 has the absolute worst trigger of all handguns. I had the chance to fire a VP70 years ago with a friend; I too walked away with that impression. Fast forward 9 years and my brother brought his Colt All-American 2000 in 9mm to the range. Now, that trigger SUCKS!

Great find Miami JBT! You are holding a piece of history as you have referred to.

Possibly mildly interesting for its historical value, but still fugly. It took HK 36 more years from the release of the VP70 until they finally introduced a polymer-framed pistol with actually decent ergonomics and an adequate trigger.

The HK P7 also looks sort of odd.

This VP 70 looks more like it was used in whichever segment of the 1970's tv movie "The Illustrated Man" (written by the superb Ray Bradbury), science fiction.

The Colt 2000 was ruined by lawyers. Eugene Stoner's design didn't include the 12lbs trigger. Two other guns with horrendous triggers was the original S&W SW40F Sigma and FN Forty-Nine. Both tried to replicate the feel of a DA Wheel Gun, but did it horribly.
