A high-end airsoft gun could work, but I wouldn't pay $250+ to find out. If you want to get into airsoft though this is a great excuse.
How about the Crosman 357? 10 shot .177 revolver. 4", 6", 8" barrels available. And cheap! You can get it for under $40 easy.
It's relatively weak, but ten shots should make short work of the serpent. Uses CO2 cartridges.
