So, after some experience, how's your M1A Scout Squad holding up?

Having just bought a PTR-91, I'm thinking about adding a Springfield M1A Scout Squad to the safe lineup.

How have yours held up? Any component failures? How about FTF/FTE/etc?

Oh yeah, how about some PHOTOS? :)

Mine is not a Scout Squad, but it's shorter brother - the SOCOM-16. I stopped counting at about 8,000 rounds, but I have to be dancing on 10,000 trouble free pulls of the trigger, (almost). I had two failures as a result of bad mags. Those have been replaced with BRW, T-57's and CMI. This rifle runs like a well tuned watch. Other than the stock, (Troy MCS), it's bone stock, (no added extractors, gas pistons, oprod springs, etc...) I think I got a match trigger with mine as well, (it's USGI) - it breaks like a wine glass. I love this puppy...Here's some before and afters:

I've got about 300 rounds through mine I think, with zero problems of any sort or form.

I do as well, but I love the function of the Troy MCS. My plan is to one day sink a Scout into the MCS and put the SOCOM back in USGI birch.....

My Scout was built without any USGI parts and it was a problematic POS
that required 4 warranty repairs before a total of 200 rounds were fired.

* Please note:
My experience is not the norm. Most Springfield Armory, Inc. M1As are problem free.

I sent it to Smith Enterprise, Inc. and had it converted into a MK14 SEI
using the Springfield receiver and TRW parts. The results were awesome
and I fired over 1500 problem free rounds from it.

I returned the rifle to SEI last year for MK14 updates and I also had the
SAI receiver replaced with a forged Chinese receiver.

This is what I have now. This is what it looks like in a LAW483 TROY MCS: PICTURE

marksman13: H2OMan, which stock do you prefer the SAGE or the Troy?

They are both excellent.
I prefer forward mounted Scout type optics and iron sights so my current favorite for my EOTech
is the CQB SAGE EBR (Mod 1) stock. I am waiting for a drop-in synthetic E2 stock for open sights.

If you prefer traditional variable magnification optics the LAW483 TROY is the best stock available for the M14 type rifle.
I have one of my Crazy Horse LITE SDM rifles in a LAW483 TROY MCS with a 4x magnifier and a XR308 EOTech.

Thousands and thousands of rounds have flowed through mine like water over many years, without a single failure not directly attributable to the ammo.

Thanks H2Oman, I was just curious. I have been trying in vain to sell a SAGE EBR stock that I have no use for. Not a whole lot of interest. I was just wondering if it might be because so many people are going to the Troy stocks.
