So are Americans actually really anti gun?

  1. You can get any poll result you want with the right selection criteria and sample size. You can prove that Jews support the Holocaust if your sample size is 1 and you select Frank Collin as that lone respondent.
  2. People will regularly say and do wildly contradictory things. I know people in Chicago who BOTH supported the handgun BAN, AND illegally owned handguns. I blame the schools. If you TEACH people to be stupid, a lot of them will be.

I guess we'll find out in the next election.

Liars figure and figures lie.

My feeling is there are many gun owners that know the truth. There are states that have a lot of gun control and states that don't. Doesn't seem to make much difference as far as homicide rates. The FBI keeps track of that and they don't have any dog in the fight.

Polls are going to say what they say. I have never been asked, and suspect they call a bunch of people in NYC or LA to conduct their poll. It's never in the heartland of Alabama or the plains of Texas that are getting these calls.

The Left is really good at making a minority opinion look widespread, the reason for that is because almost all major media outlets spew leftist liberal ideology. Yes there are places in America that are very liberal, mainly your large cities and places where there's a lot of diversity. Schools, both grade school and colleges are overwhelmingly liberal and they take young, impressionable kids and feed them full of their leftist emotional beliefs, which is why so many young people are liberals.

Also, it's mostly the younger crowd that is so prevalent on social media, so it's not surprising that so much anti gun rhetoric is being seen, of course this is made worse by places that can very easily disseminate propaganda. Even worse, many social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter often block and ban, or simply hide, more conservative narratives.

Is America largely anti gun? I don't think so...but it's portrayed that way by a media that has FAR TOO MUCH POWER AND INFLUENCE. Sadly more and more kids are growing up in a society that teaches them WHAT to think and not HOW to think, but I'm hoping that once they get out into the real world, they'll see the error of their ways.

yes, and Trump will never be elected President .. Hillary's got it in the bag.

It's all on how you frame the question and whom you ask.

Accurate numbers ... My guess it's 50-50 gun haters and gun bearers with a sizeable portion not giving it much thought .... until it hits the news.

Those kids need to seek out and find the polititions responsible for keeping them unarmed/unprotected and stuck in Kill Zones.

''Gun Free Zones'' in Airports, Fedral Buildings and Court Houses differ from School because they have armed guards or at least an armed presence.

There were no school shootings 30 years ago, but a big difference is that they no longer teach ''The Gun'' and its inherent reponsibilitys.; Bi-athalon, Skeet, Markmenship, Gun Safety, Hunters safety, and kids certainly do not learn citizenship or respect for firearms watching TV.

The Politions who have forced these laws onto these kids, to be kept ''shelterd in place'' unrmed and unprotected, should be held responsible for every death by shooting in schools since enacting those horrible, draconian laws..

I'll add that even with all the laws we have today, ''The System'' we have in place was a failure. No further laws are needed, we need to fix the FBI, and in more ways than one with all the recent revelations.

"Would you support legislation that, if passed, would eliminate mass-shootings at schools?"

The question is idiotic, as countries with total bans on personal firearms still have mass murders, China, Japan, and don't forget Russia, which has so many of the laws the Left love, had a church shooting a few days ago 4 dead, 5 wounded. Did you here the media talk about that one?

Who says they do?

It's not about objects OR "hearts".

It's about acquiring a monopoly on the means of armed force.

If you've read even a LITTLE history, you know what comes next.

Over twice as many men have been murdered, in their own country, by their own people, by gun control, than all the
wars in the last 100 years (WWI included) . The blood of millions of innocents cries out against this horrific manipulation.

I'm pretty sure that preventive detention, police torture, corrective labor camps and summary death sentences handed down by a three member "troika" would put a big dent in the problem... as would a pervasive network of informants, ten year labor camp sentences for those who fail to inform... as well as the families of the offenders.

I guess it's just a question of how seriously you take the matter...

90% support of background checks does NOT equate to 90% support for Michael Bloomberg's Everytown Universal Background Checks on used gun transactions that end up being a $55 sin tax on private sales.
At a Virginia gun show, the State Police booth will do a background check for less than $5.
At a Tennessee gun shop, the combined state and federal background checks run $10 for new or used gun purchase from the dealer. I'd say 90% are OK with that.
At a Tennessee gun shop, the fee for the dealer to run a background check for used gun transfer between private seller, private buyer is $30. I'd say 90% are NOT OK with that. No one I know has used it.

A government subsidy would go a long way towards removing the sting from private background checks. Then again, I'm guessing there's not a lot of interest in actually funding it from your average taxpayer

When I read this I think of EVERY SINGLE poll that said that Hildabeast was a 3 to 1 favorite in 2016. So much for our ' fake media,'

That's because those people have jobs and Caller ID, and don't much answer the phone.

There's a "dirty little secret" in the polling industry that they keep lists of "good" callers in the call centers, so that they can meet their minimum caller numbers per shift. Those numbers typically belong to "leisure class" persons (about equal parts retired seniors, college professors, and wastrels).

Further, 50%--half--of the US population lives in just 30 of the 3000 counties in the US. So, a great deal of poling calls fall in those 15-16 metropolitan areas. This creates a skew of its own.

You sound (read) like you missed the point. I was explaining how polls get the results they want.

This was my post, in its entirety:

III>>>"Would you support legislation that, if passed, would eliminate mass-shootings at schools?"

Who would say "no" to that? Of course the polls will show an overwhelming majority in favor. It's a no-brainer.

But, phrase the question in a way that's more dry and to the point: "Would you support a ban on the most-popular type of rifle in civilian ownership, of which there are currently over five million owners, and which belongs to a class of firearm of which over one million are sold each year?" Then, your answer would likely be markedly different.

And, as mentioned, there are a LOT of gun owners, tired of being vilified and lambasted, who will not admit much to an anonymous poller.<<<III

My apologies, thank you for the clarification.

Also, after reading today that the number one thing we want, armed staff on school grounds, utterly FAILED this time due to the SRO being a COWARD, kinda burns me up. An MSN story I read just a few minutes ago stated that among the myriad list of failures from the local LE and feds, was the SRO responded to the shooting, but waited outside the building until the gunshots stopped. How many kids died while he was outside with a load in his pants? His response to being suspended for this was to retire effective immediately.

I had not heard this. Thanks for mentioning it. I had only heard that the SRO "had not engaged" the shooter, and that there had been "no contact between the two". I simply assumed that, with a sprawling campus of at least five buildings and the shooter's likely knowledge of the practices and routines of the SRO, the SRO simply had not been anywhere near.

I would take those "poll" numbers with a grain of salt . I don't believe statistics when they are based on politics or contreverasal issues. You don't know where they are getting these numbers from or how many people they asked. For instance you would get very different numbers if the poll was taken from a rural Texas town vs a group of people from say orange county california (just throwing names out there). Now if the number for the poll was used the the orange county group and they asked 20 people and 18 said they want better back ground checks and 14 said stricter capacity on magazines....well there's your 90% and 70% of Americans....... i wouldnt call that very accurate numbers to represent all of america. This is just a hypothetical though, idk where they get numbers for the polls from, just making a point. Yes it's a big thing in he news right now,but can't believe everything you hear.

Poll numbers, like the ones that predicted HRC in a landslide for POTUS? Spot on, polls are always skewed to a geographic demographic. Nobody in my neck a da woods been polled on this topic, guaranteed

That's kind of the definition of "You had one job!" Imagine if Coach Feis had had the coward's gun instead of having to serve as a sacrificial human shield.
