So I'm now a proud owner of a 10/22 takedown rifle.

What is the advantage of the takedown version over, say, one with a folding stock (which is what I have)?

i have a takedown also. i'd never owned a 10/22 and was looking to buy one and just found the takedown to be a neat feature. i added tech sights, which was easily the best accessory purchase i've made in a while. also added a nice shooting sling. as it sits, it's pretty much like i want, but i may replace the trigger with a better unit.

i'm not one for buying every doodad out there, but i can see how easy it could be with these little guns.

The problem: it seems to lead to more and more 10/22's . I never owned a 10/22 until about 8 months ago, I now own 3 and one of them is a 10/22 TakeDown. Be forewarned!!

IMO, for me, its smaller when broken down and when assembled you get a full stock.

I'm not a big fan of a pistol gripped rifle. However, Ive been thinking of getting one.

My youngest daughter had to have a PINK stocked 10/22. I, the fool, got it for her, but she could never fit a trip to the range into her busy social schedule. Now she is back at school, and this pink .22 is staring at me/

I think I am going to take it TACTI-FOOL!

Congrats....
The 10/22 TD is a net rifle. Love mine ;)
And as it has been stated: 10/22's do multiple.

Shoot straight and safe.

Lateck,

I prefer the OEM stock to that of a folder on my takedown, but there are options out there that allow a body to have a folder on a takedown model...

Mine is the only long gun that I do not like keeping a sling on. ( The way I like to haul it in the ruck is the main reason for not wanting a sling)

Currently messing with a quick detatch type of sling, but I am not liking it for this specific rifle.

I added a recoil buffer to mine, as well as a compact little scope, but other than a handful of mags, I pretty much spend $$ on ammo for it at this point.

The 10-22 Take Down I bought last year was my first .22 cal rifle. I'm very happy with it. I put the Nikon 3x9 rimfire scope on it (old eyes) , it's a tight squeeze but it fits in the bag still. I also bought three BX25 mags for it, saves on reoading time:)

I'm wondering if I have fallen into one of those deep dark holes of add ons and upgrades that are omni present in the gun hobby with this 10/22 purchase. Be honest.
IMO, the TD lends itself to minimal "add ons and upgrades". Like almost any 10/22 they can usually benefit from a better trigger (either replacement or worked over by a gunsmith) but beyond that and better sights (either Tech Sights or a compact scope are my choice) if you really want to tinker you're better off with a standard 10/22.

Personal choice. I've never tried a folding 10/22 stock that I liked, while the TD to me feels like a real rifle stock.

The best part for the 10/22 to me is one of those extended mag releases from Tactical Solutions. I hate the factory release on them. Too hard to use quickly. Plus they come in colors :) a neat feature

Apparently Ruger added a better mag release at some point, because mine had one.

My older 10-22's do not however.
