Robinson arms does not have it's act together at all because they refuse to update the VEPR section of their website. http://www.ak47.com/products.asp?cat=10 and http://www.ak47.com/Default.htm Well, I finally had enough of that second link never being updated so I emailed them. Here's the text from the incredibly informative response I got  with my questions to them FIRST:

>Will you please update your website concerning the VEPRs. What is
> going on, it hasn't been updated since March of last year? Are you
> ever going to sell them again? Please reply.

[Robinson's response] "We can't get any Veprs in right now" :scrutiny: :banghead:

SO, knowing that fbmg had mentioned to me at a gun show that they were going to start carrying VEPRs, I emailed them. Getting clear information is not so easy because this was the response:

"At this time we have decided not to carry any in the stock
configuration."

Thankfully, when I emailed them back, I got this very very helpful response (his answers in bold):

"1. Why, there's a lot of demand for them. But not at $600 each, unconverted with is what the Russians want for them
2. What configuration will you be carrying them in then? That is in negotiations to see what the Russians will change on them
3. When will the ones you WILL be carrying be available? As soon as the Russians make the changes. When/if they will is up in the air. What we ask for is for them to leave the trigger group in the same place and add an SVD style butt stock. Get rid of that stupid slant cut receiver back, and just put the normal AK/RPK front end on the minus the bayo lug and flash hider.

If you would like to see this happen, I would suggest that you and everyone else you know send RAAC
[russian american armory corp] an email asking for these changes. They don't want to make ANY changes because they are afraid of the ATF. If they dont make any changes, they can keep them. The cost is just too high for a thumb hole stocked gun and way to high to convert. Sure a few people would buy them, but we are not bringing in the amount required to carry them to sell a few. It is all or nothing."

At least you got a response from Robinson Arms, that;s more than I ever got.

Yeah, Robinson Arms pretty much just gave up on the VEPRs and chose not to support them anymore. Which is fine with me as when I called them a few times regarding a SUPER VEPR, they didn't even know what one was and then when I found someone that did know what a SUPER VEPR was, he couldn't answer my simple question about whether a VEPR (308) and a SUPER VEPR use the same stocks.

Told me to buy a stock and if it didn't fit, then send it back and I'd only be out the shipping and 10% restocking fee.:cuss: :cuss: Yeah right...no thanks

Robinson has lost my order for .223 mag followers twice. I can't say I'm happy with them at the moment.

That's business. They have to make a solid analysis of what the real demand for these rifles is and at what price. I can't imagine it would be worth the trouble to do low-volume on these.

Anyway,

The VEPR was ok. It was nice that they were already in AK form and took AK mags. They had a nice grip and a very nice forearm. Buttstock was OK...but the compatibility thing was a little annoying.

At that price (actually for less), a Saiga conversion can be done, and you'd get a lighter-weight rifle that is every bit as good.

The one negative about the VEPR was the lame painted finish that Hoppe's would dissolve.

And this is upsetting why? Did you scream at GM when they decided to cancel the Vega? I would just say " oh well " and carry on my day.

Maybe because they still catalog an item THEY DON'T SELL. Much like DSA lost a sale to me because they no longer make stainless rifles even though they're still cataloged. Is it really that much to ask for a company to update their website to reflect what they actually sell?

I understand that Russian American Armory... www.raacfirearms.com is working to import the VEPR. I was happy when they brought in the CM-2 target rifles and certainly look forward to what they might work out with the folks at Molot.

Veprs

I think the whole Vepr thing is a little bit more complicated. Wasn't there some sort of lawsuit that prevented the original manufacturer from producing them?

I wated to get one, but never got around to it. I would say they are a step above your average AK clone.

Man, do some of you guys that post even read the initial thread? :D

The first response was from Robinson Armament.

The 2nd response was from our own PvtPyle of FBMG. I was there when he wrote it.

Robarm is done with Veprs. If anymore Veprs come into the country it will be through RAAC. See PvtPyle's bolded comments above. That should explain things.

And yes, there was a lawsuit. Molot is now owned by Izmash. Molot made Veprs. Izmash made the Saigas.

From what I can gather

The Russians aren't very good about telling you what you'll be getting, and when you'll be getting it.

How much are Veprs going for these days?

Larry, local's description of his email with FBMG isn't very clear. It appears he mentions you, then gives a Robinson response, and then gives Pvt Pyle's response. But I could be wrong.

The second reply is from FBMG. We're not associated with Robarms at all, except that we used to sell a lot of their guns. We are distributors for RAAC.

Oh, I think I've got it. Just wasn't too clear from how it was described initially- ie, is the "them" you? The ones who said:
"At this time we have decided not to carry any in the stock
configuration."

Well, it would be nice to get another Vepr. Mine is a little heavy, but it is bullet proof reliable, accurate, and pretty tough. I like it.
