Remember Brazil? Earlier this year they passed a law banning virtually all private firearms ownership. Well, guess what?

From CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/americas/11/22/rio.shootout.reut/index.html):

Rio gunbattle leaves 10 dead

Monday, November 22, 2004 Posted: 7:44 AM EST (1244 GMT)

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) -- More than 10 people were killed in a nearly four-hour-long gunbattle between two drug gangs in Rio de Janeiro early Monday, Brazilian media said.

The shootout was the latest clash between rival gangs from the Vidigal and Rocinha neighborhoods, which are fighting for control of drug dealing points in Rio de Janeiro's Sao Conrado area.

Citing residents of Vidigal, local media said more than 10 people were killed in the shootout. Police confirmed the clash but declined to confirm the deaths.

Military police in two armored cars entering Vidigal were met with gunfire and grenades. They later combed through the impoverished neighborhood in search of gang members, police said.

Early on in the battle, the gang members shot out power transformers providing light to Vidigal, leaving the neighborhood in the dark.

More than 20 people have been killed since April in gunbattles between the two gangs.

Know what really gets me? Were there to be a shooting with a rifle previously banned under the AWB, there would certainly be at least a couple of sentences mentioning gun control that would have addressed it. However, if there's a shooting in an area after tighter gun control laws are implemented and subsequently proven ineffective?

Not a word. :barf:

It's all those neighboring countries and their lax gun laws! Gun control will only be truly effective when it's implemented globally!

And we'll also have to crack down on manufacturing materials that will undoubtably be used to create black-market weapons...and maybe even the sources of the designs and info...books and such. I think we can just burn the books, right?

It's really the whole 'culture' surrounding guns that's the problem. So we'll have to get rid of that too. 'Sport' shooting and the like. It just says to kids 'Look. you can shoot and have fun and be responsible' Gag. That has to go. I don't think we need anything too major in the way of deterrent, but we're talking deadly weapons here, so jail time for sure for anything 'gun culture' realted. Maybe, like, 1 year (?) for possession of magazines and that kind of crap up to 5 or 10 for teaching children how to shoot. The thought alone makes me sick. People actually do that. Teach children to use these things.

We can't get going on this fast enough for me. I say to everyone who owns a gun: "You ought to be in prison"

PS: :barf:

I think they ought to sue the steel manufacturers. After all if steel weren't allowed to be made, we couldn't have guns.

We need a world wide ban on steel !!!!

Nah, that wont work. The manufactures will just get around that by using ceramics, a perfect example is the Glock 7.

Let’s go back to the Bronze Age! Hell. Let’s pull out our teeth, cut off our thumbs, and move back to the forest!
