The thought occurred to me today when someone was asking me about concealed carry. They had heard that more folks than usual were signing up for concealed carry and wanted to know who offered it. Well I could only smile and admit that I couldn't teach the class till my official paperwork showed up at the end of February, NRA certified Pistol Instructor.

The economy is down but crime as I understand it, is not really all that up. And those folks who were going to get their CCW permit after the election already did it. I think the explosive wave of new gun owners has started to crest and will start to go down hill. In Florida, Central Florida, we have had two incidents where lawful gun owners (one with a Concealed Carry Permit holder) used their firearms in lawful justified defense, I wonder if that maybe has stirred public sentiment for people to get their own, or maybe steer clear of it entirely.

I've seen the prices on AKs start to stagnate and come down, ARs are still high but that I think is to be expected, and .308 anything is hard to find because the ammo is expensive (oddly .30-06 is far more expensive). I wonder what will hold for Concealed Carry permits in those states that are shall issue where open carry isn't an option. Could it be "build it and they will come" or has the market petered out.

I got my Instructor certification for the heck of it because I figured it was ultimately a better investment (got my NRA annual membership while I was at it) because I could help bring folks into the fold more readily.

God willing, the Supreme Court will document that CCW is an unalienable right of US citizens.

In Northern Maryland where I work as a LEO crime is up, Thefts, Domestics, DUI, Robbery w/deadly weapon. Police are retiring and not being replaced, hiring freeze's, Police Academy classes cancelled, police per 1000 citizens below 1 and now here comes the depression/recession along with a liberal puke President who will cause the legal system to lurch left causing cops to wonder even more why bother going to work. And whose caught in the middle, the law-abiding citizen who just wants to live free and raise his family. Well I hope and pray it turns out alright, but experience says batten down the hatches we are all ready for a rough ride. Buy Ammo!

"CCW!!" "CCW!" "CCW!" What the heck is THAT!!??

The Constitution is our PERMISSION to own and carry a firearm. Your state / locality might LICENSE you, like a driver's license, in order to know just WHO has a gun, and if they come looking for a gun at my place, they'll find A GUN. There's no number of guns on the license. (YET ! !) But the Constitution does not provide for nor restrict you as regards "CCW", so use the proper term: license. If you are required to carry your gun concealed, then you have a ccw. This is in particular, not in general. "CCW" is becoming a Ninja term anymore.

yeah the freeze really sucks right now gunther.
I am currently an MSP applicant (already polygraphed) and the thing that still makes me worry the most about not getting in is the budget.

I have a feeling that some states or even congress will have the balls to pass an even more unreasonably restrictive law than ever before now that Obama will be in.
The result of which will be a supreme court case that could be very beneficial to our cause of RKBA.

Hope for "Progressive" Folks?

Here in Atlanta there is an incredible crime wave happening. The violence is downright brazen. Many neighborhoods bearing the brunt of the crime are "progressive" enclaves ("art community" types). Funny thing is, some of them figured out that a firearm sure would be helpful if the bad guys break down the door. They're arming! Some of them are even doing some serious firearms training. :what: Hopefully they'll get a CCWP and change their anti ways.

Yep, when there's a mag cap limit people go back to big cartridges because they can't argue the higher capacity thing anymore.

I WANT the 9mm guys to be able to carry 20 round mags...
I do NOT want to see any weapons restrictions at all...
But if they are it wont effect my firearms purchases.
I buy revolvers, low capacity autoloaders, pump and break action shotguns, bolt action rifles...
But I will do what I can to make sure the high capacity people can keep feeding their addictions.

States that like CCW will see more of it. States that restrict it, will see less of it.

Check the history of them:

"Executive Order" trumps all "rights" temporarily . . . . . that is, as long as they can get away with it. Think the Japanese "problem" and the cure for it in WWII, and the Clintonistas ploy to disarm us all piecemeal a few years back. Our problem will begin only if we allow it to begin. Why have "we" let up on the building of the border fence" I think it's because our attention has been diverted towards the messiah we are getting soon. Keep your powder dry.

Well when some folks learn my NRA Instructor Certification becomes official at the end of February they want to know what I'll be charging. Which given I don't have a deal with a range, don't have the notary service, don't have the state paperwork (Florida), I don't imagine much, just enough to cover my range fee and a box of .357 and the necessary NRA Packets and such.

Some folks couldn't care less about getting CCW, so I was just wondering. I guess the next time I'm at one of the ranges that holds classes I'll have to ask. I'm getting the NRA Instructor insurance in the next week or two just in time for my official paperwork. If I can bring three or four folks into the fold each month I'll be happy with my contribution to the RKBA movement.

My question was mostly a quandry what folks might think about what non-gunnies were going to do about getting their CCW permits. Would our movement, the RKBA, see a new flush of members or would the number of folks getting their CCW permits slaken off. Would society's want wane or would the storm on the horizon make folks want to get theirs.

A prediction, anyone??

A la Jimmie Carter, B.H.O will be the first one-term president, in this 21st century Now, back to topic.

But he has proposed a national CCW ban. Do I need to cite this?

I don't expect Obama will want a protracted and very hostile lawsuit...especially during his first term.
However, the feds do control the purse strings (well, sorta) which could be manipulated to coerce policy.

BTW, I expect Obama to be a one term POTUS too.

It is impossible to know what will happen here.

Obama would love to ban guns. He hates guns and gun owners, and has expressed such thoughts in the past. He has only toaned it down of late. But, we have to remember he is a politician. His desire to get going on that is related to his perception of his ability to stay in power while getting those laws on the books.

As it directly relates to CCW, an Executive Order banning it is virtually impossible. That isn't how they work. Legislation banning it... how many states would automatically file suit? How many individuals would automatically file suit? Have to say, you have 2nd, 9th and 10th Amendment cases against such a law.

In the meantime, you have an economic situation that shows no real signs of getting better, and a man committed to trying to fix the economy before he does much else.

I think one of two things happens: Obama doesn't get a chance to do any of these laws because in his dismal first term, he fails to fix the economy (which he never really had much of a chance at fixing anyway).

Or, he goes through with it, and loses almost all his centrist support who voted on their pocket books hoping Obama would pull us out of the country's problems, but still wanted to cling to their guns.

If it does become federal law would the states acknowledge it? Think smoking pot in California. Would you only have to worry if you get pulled over by a fed?

Politics...politics...politics...Everyone in this thread needs to go back to freshman civics class and refresh themselves on what powers the chief executive of the United States has. No president could eliminate concealed carry if he wanted to. Concealed carry is a state, not a federal issue.

This poor attempt to disguise a political discussion as an on topic gun discussion is closed!
