Crazy happenings. The day after V-tech a neighboring college (St. Eds) had a bomb threat.

After that Thursday around 5pm:

At approximately 5:30 p.m. The University of Texas at Austin Police
Department (UTPD) received a report of a non-specific threatening note
in Welch Hall. Police immediately investigated and swept the building
with officers and their dogs in accordance with their protocol. The
building was cleared as safe at 6:15 p.m. UTPD determined that
evacuation was not necessary.

And then after i get out of class on Friday i get

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

At about 11 a.m. UTPD received a low-level non-specific threat for
Perry-Castaneda Library. As of 12:55 p.m., the building has been
cleared
as safe.

And i had my phone off last night and when i woke up i had 4 voicemails and 3 text messages warning me that all the security guards around our building was advising everyone to stay in their dorms because there is a man with an axe and a gun running around UT. Sounds more like a stupid rumor, but all the people who called were trusted friends.

What is happening.......?! Should i go grab my snub nose and keep it with me in my room?

EDIT: Update, just found out from the front desk that the gun was recovered in one of the elevators but the guy wasnt caught.

Probably jumpiness, nervousness, sleeplessness, and all other manners of paranoia. Leads to overreacting, witch hunting, and going off half-cocked.

I remember about a year after columbine a buddy of mine in jr high had to take of his Norwegian knit sweater because school administrators were worried that "bulky clothing" could be used to conceal assault shotguns and general purpose machine guns and such other sillyness.

I think the UT Austin law school is hard at work. It is only a matter of time before the parents start to sue VT. So by over reacting and reporting every possible threat. Soon it will be lost in the noise and likely cease.

UT Austin is a pretty decent sized college in a large city. Try to imagine if every single police incident that could be a threat to anyone being reported to everyone in Austin. We are talking hundreds of reports a day. I suspect it will slow soon as all it does is make people nervous.

nothing seems to be stirring up here at texas tech, my friend told me they allowed students to carry the day after vt at a&m. I doubt they are still letting them now or if its only a rumor, but i hope the crazies dont start running off that vt tragedy
