I have a 642. I am looking to get another snub. I want one each for my wife and I.
She does not carry, but does want one ready in the house. She has not ruled out carrying in the future, and I think it will come to that sooner than later, and she would fanny pack or purse carry.

So I am looking for something with a better DA trigger than the 642.
Any ideas? ;)

Get another 642, or a 442, and shoot the snot out of both. Their triggers get much better with use.

If that fails to satisfy, have a good smith polish the action, possibly even install lighter hammer and rebound springs.

When carrying and concealment are not prime considerations, I strongly recommend a six shot revolver with a 4" barrel, fixed sights, something like the S&W Model 10. The reason is that the longer barrel is a lot easier to "point and shoot" than a shorter barrel, while a 6" barrel and adjustable sights tend to catch on things.

The trigger pulls on the larger revolvers are better also since with a small revolver, the light hammer requires a harder spring to ensure ignition. After your wife learns on the larger gun, she can then, if she wants, buy a 642 or equivalent.

Colt Detective Special... one of the all time best steel frame snub nosed revolvers.

snub... better DA trigger

the old Colts are mighty fine, they are, but not so easy to come by
given your two primary criteria, give the Ruger LCR a real close look
an lot of folks do praise it's DAO trigger

There are a couple of model 10 police trade ins at a local GS. But I want to get one gun that can be later CC.

I have been looking at the LCR real hard. :) Maybe the 357 and let her shoot 38 in it.

If the trigger pull is a deciding factor then the LCR in the heavier .357 will be hard to beat for your wife. Just don't shoot it or you'll buy one for yourself!!.....:)

Has she fired your 642? I can't hit the side of barn from the inside with a snub, and yes I know it's me.
We recently got a 4" revolver for my wife to have in the house. If and when she warms to carrying of course we will look at the same platform only smaller.

Yeah this means another gun..... damn the luck.

She is surprisingly accurate with the 642. It's really me that wants another gun :D

Current production - Ruger LCR, nice DA trigger and very nice feeling grips

Out of production - Colt Detective Special or Cobra, nicest trigger I've ever felt on a little snubby, very accurate, 6 rounds and uses the same speedloaders as the S&W K-frame

I have to agree with Jim K. (always a smart position to take :D)

With the exception of concealment, there is NOTHING that a J frame does as well as a K frame.

Nothing
