I asked the following questions:

MIM present in the CZ handguns?
What steel are the barrels?
Can civilians preorder full cap mags for September 14 delivery?
Any info on the CZ-SP01?

ANSWERS by Mike Eagleshield

>1.The barrels are hammer forged from carbon steel, slides are forged from
bar stock and frames are investment cast.(no mim)
>> 2.Retail price on 75 16 rd magazines will be $48.00. (no pre-orders)
>> 3 Info on the SP 01 is unavailble, at this time.

My interpretations:

1. CZ doesn't use MIM (duh).
2. Barrels are ordnance steel and not chrome lined or anything special.
3. Full caps will probably settle in at $30.00-35.00 on the internet, especially if Mec-Gar is geared up.
4. The SP-01 is not going to be talked about, but it is the worst kept CZ secret of the year. They are probably waiting for the AWB to be definitively dirt napping.

For those not in the know, this is the SP-01: (Yes, it has my least favorite word--tactical, but I am buying one upon announcement):
CZ SP-01=18+1 rail equipped steel over alloy frame CZ-75 with a beavertail and ambi safeties.

Interesting. I had been wanting a CZ pattern gun like that--essentially a CZ take on the Loaded Operator. As there was no such gun I went for a Jericho instead. The full length dust cover makes for little muzzle rise, but unfortunately lacks the rail which I also had wanted. Perhaps I will need an SP-01 as well. Keep us posted!

I don't know that the SP-01 has an alloy frame. I think it might be steel. On CZ's alloy guns they have a line on both sides of the frame just above the grip panels where the frame gets thicker. This makes the rails alittle more beefy. This is not found on the steel frame pistol. This is also not found on the SP-01. I emailed CZ about the SP-01 and this is the email I got.

As for the prices of the hicap mags, I think $30-35 dollars will be close or maybe even a little high. Just my assumption anyway.

Also I think some of the inner small parts might be MIM. Mike only listed the barrel, slide, and frame. What about the hammer sear, trigger bar, ect., ect.?

faustulus,

You can get a SA trigger fro CZ for the 75B SA and it will make the CZ a SA. FYI.

Well even though he didn't specifically mention the small parts, he did say "no mim." At the minimum, I think that could be taken that no mim is used in the pistols because no one uses MIM for barrels, slides, or frames.

Certainly you could ask him on a follow up.

I think the SP-01 has an alloy frame only because the P-01 does, but I admit that is speculation on my part. Since the frames are cast, it could certainly be either.

Well whoops. Is the P-01 actually aluminum alloy or am I wrong about that too?:D

I appologize if I offended you. Yeah the P-01 frame is aluminum alloy. I have often wondered about the MIM parts in a CZ. Now that I reread you original post, I agree the the 'no mims' does mean, none at all.

Interesting information ....

Just curious, though, ...

... after the AWB expires, do you think we'll see CZ produce a pistol in 10mm, say with 12-to-15rd capacity mags?

MIM Parts?

I've had a 1911 safety or two, both MIM, break. When they did, the point of the break has a very characteristic look -- sort of like a fine sponge.

I've had a CZ slide stop break (my fault, not the gun's -- put it in the wrong gun...) The break area LOOKED EXACTLY like a broken MIM 1911 safety.

Makes me think that some of the parts that can't be easily machined -- like a slide stop -- might be MIM. (Other internal parts, like the sear and hammer, seem to be machined -- and darned HARD steel, at that.)

I will have to agree that they are not MIM.....Cast parts that have air bubbles in them will look like sponge also.

CZ has the largest gun factory IN THE WORLD....so my guess is they do their own stuff....Ill bet they dont MIM.......anyway....

I still want an SP01 :D

Shoot well.....

so, can someone spell out for me how this varies from the other czs? are the things in the pictures changes from a standard 75b?

SP-01 differance from a 75B
Sights
Longer barrel ( 5" I've heard)
Full lenth frame rails
Accessory mount
Raised and extended beaver tail for higher grip
Extended controls (probably ambi safety, haven't heard).
Laniard loop
New 120mm 18 round magazine for IPSC competetions.

That's what I've seen/heard so far. With the longer slide rails and barrel they should be rediculously accurate if my normal CZ 75B is any indication.

Oh, and a word about MIM. Having now stoned the sears in both my Delta Elite and 3 CZs they are definately NOT MIM in the CZs. They are a softer metal and show none of the injection markings indicitive of a MIM part.

I am adding that SP-01 to my "buyassoonaspossible" list along with the new Ruger P345.

Just when I was going to start buying long guns too.....:banghead: .
