If anyone here knows of a commercial source for .50 cal Lee REAL bullets, please share it with me!:) I know I can purchase the molds and cast these bullets, but I really don't want to get into casting. Also, I've searched this forum and haven't found a source, but if there is a posting/thread with this information please share that with me too. Thanks in advance for your help!:)

Not exactly commercial but DD4lifeusmc sells plenty of cast projectiles including .50 cal 320 grn Lee REALs which I've bought from him to try. I've dealt with him several times for a several BP items and can say he is a good guy to deal with. His prices are more than reasonable and his shipping time is quick. Send him a PM.

Thanks rodwha

Thanks rodwha for replying to my message. I appreciate your help. I've been in contact with DD and am planning to purchase some bullets from him.

No problem. Hope they work out well for you as they did me.

I'm curious what you intend to shoot them through. You may want to have some .52 cal felt wads. My first shot was about a foot left and quite low at 50 yds and keyholed. Using felt wads he next two were just under the bull and nearly touching. At that point I bought a mold!

Use of REAL bullets

Hi Rodwha--I will be using these bullets in a TC Hawken (1:48) and a Lyman Great Plains Rifle (1:60 or 1:66, don't recall which at this moment). Both these rifles stabilize the 385 gr buffalo bullet out to 100 yards (my max range), both stabilize the 250 grain Lee REAL bullet, and stabilize a patched ball at that range. I hope the 320 grain REAL bullets shoot this good in these guns.

I will find out because I'm ordering some fro DD4life.:) I'll let you know how they shoot.

I'd assume they'll work well as they did in my 1:48" twist Lyman, though I never took them past 50 yards.

I bought a used 250 grn REAL mold but haven't tried them.

I use a 320 grain modified in my TC Hawken with a 1in 48 twist. If you can find it, use Thompson Center bore butter for lube. You can shoot all day without cleaning. A friend and I ran a test to see how many shots we could take without cleaning or losing accuracy. We shot goex 2f 80 grain loads. RWS caps with a hotshot nipple. We shot Two pounds before we quit and no loss of accuracy or ease of loading. That was one time that I got plumb tired of shooting!
My modified that I use for deer is the 320 grain mold hollow pointed. It weighs 280 grains pure lead. I cannot shoot more than 70 grains behind it on deer. If you use more the bullet fragment on impact. It still kills but sure makes a mess of the eat. With 65-70 grains it expands perfectly into a disc 1.25 diameter and .125 thick. It usually stops under the hide on the off side on a shoulder shot. We gave bullets to 10 or 12 other guys on the condition they would report results. Out of 97 or 98 deer shot all but 2 were in their tracks one shot kills.
