Short of trying to order some extras from Taurus, anyone know of a supplier for the five round full moon clips for the Taurus 905 revolver?

The 5 that came with the gun look a little flimsy so I'd be intrested in knowing what else is available.

Wally,

If there is a source, I have not found it. As the proud owner of two 905s, I too would like to find a good source of moon clips (and I would be happiest if I could get RIMZ to fit). As it stands now, I am about to put a large order in to Taurus for additional clips, for I fear that without any source at all, the guns are not near as desireable.

Let me know if you have stumbled across any sourse since starting the thread.

No luck finding alternates so far.

I ordered more "Stellar Clips" direct from Taurus, no web ordering, had to make a phone call. Five for $9 + $5 S&H :(

Gun shot well at the range but extraction was difficult using steel cased "Monarch" and aluminun cased CCT Blazer. If it doesn't improve after a few more sessions and cleanings I'll polish the chambers -- bought this gun specifically to shoot the ~$4/box cheapie 9mm ammo.

Seems the clips aren't as flimsy as they first seemed, although I did have to tighten up a few of them by pushing a flat blade screwdriver into the notch between the rounds and closing the gap the rims fit into by rocking the screwdriver a bit. Easier to do than describe.

I had no rounds fall out while reloading and I'm sure the FMJ bullets helped with reloading, but the clips seemed to work pretty well.

I think its a niche gun unless they come out with a 4" barrel model with adjustable sights, but it'd also need to hold six instead of five for most competitions.

Model 649,

I sent an e-mail inquiry to Ranch Products as you suggested, and I will let you guys know if they have the clips available and, if so, the details for purchase. And if that does not work, I guess I will do as Wally did and order a quantity from Taurus.

Recieved a reply from Steve at Ranch Products and at this time they are not making moon clips for the Taurus 905B.

I cannot verify this to be true, but I read on one of these web-forums that Federal used to manufacture rimmed 9MM cartridges a few years back to eliminate moon clips when S&W and Ruger used to make 9MM revos. Don't know if it's fact or fiction but might be worth looking into.
The 9MM round really lends itself to short barreled pistols, I for one, would buy a 9MM revo if it weren't for the #&%$#@ moon clips.

Gunmeister,

Very interesting, but one of the reasons that I bought the 905 was my fondness for snubby revolvers and the ready abundance of cheap ammo (not only is it available everywhere, but I also keep a LOT on hand personally since I shoot 9 mm semi-autos a great deal). So, having a rimmed 9 mm is very interesting, and would be a necessity if the moon clips ever disappear, but is not the solution to my immediate situation. I would not likely to stock up on a rimmed 9, it would not likely feed too well through my Glocks, and I doubt seriously if its price would be "reasonable." And I do not particularly dislike moon clips. I use the RIMZ product in a Smith 625 and in a Smith 325 and like them a good bit...easy to use and quick on reloading. But these clips that come with the Taurus are not really in the same ballpark as RIMZ, either in function or in cost.

Anyway, thanks for the input; I may take a look-see for the rimmed 9 mm and see what they have to offer.

If I recall correctly, the rimmed 9mm was actually designed for a special Charter Arms revolver, the Pit Bull, back in the late 1980's. From what I remember, it was not similar to the .45 auto-rim, in that the rim wasn't designed to replace the moon clips. It was a distinct cartridge for that revolver. If there's a new rimmed 9mm that will work in clip revolevrs, please let me know. I passed on a 9mm snubbie because I didn't want to fool with the clips.
