Happens in Newark NJ every day.....it's why the NPD have cars stationed at the entrance and exit ramps to Routes 78 and 80 during rush hour traffic.......armed car jackings / robbery.....seriously. Like the young fella here who was shot and killed in front of his wife at the Short Hills Mall by multiples.
Yeah, Newark was a real jungle back in 2003 when I lived there, sounds like it's still pretty rough.

To the thread:

I contemplated the dashcam video. I think it's a Kobayashi Maru situation.

Short of an armored car I think maybe I'd say "Prayer, Mr. Saavik. Klingons don't take prisoners"

I've thought about this video for a while. I think there is a good chance I wouldn't react fast enough since there is so little time. Driving away is the only hope and you or your loved ones may well indeed be shot or killed in this scenario.

Chances of prevailing are remote indeed, and the video doesn't show how ell the victim(s) fared when it was over. Most likely, they complied and were unharmed.

Depending on what's behind, perhaps backing up while left-hand-blasting would come fairly naturally. The outgoing fire might just be enough to drive 'em back to their vehicle and distract from their aim..
you're assuming it was a carjacking or robbery- I was thinking more like kidnapping

I don't think you could count on a non violence encounter,, and submit.. I would go out in a flaming burnout if that happened to me,,, Id be shooting and or nailing the accelerator pedal
also, just from my observance.... this was a staged event... or something was very wrong... and no one mentioned it... If this was real, then the bad guys allowed the dash cam to keep running... video the faces of each thug.. and also the license plate of the car. and after it was over.. they allowed the dash cam to be intact so it could be posted on line.. either very dumb bad guys or it was just a hoax.....

Not staged. Just a normal armed robbery in Johannesburg. Guy's don't worry about their faces being visible as they often just vanish into their townships. The vehicles they use are always stolen/hijacked.

The SA newspapers are full of these attacks with a pretty much every other day regularity.

OK, Thutha, who am I? "Goeie middag! Vandag, top stories!"

Hijackers aren't the only thing you have to watch out for on the roads.

Fred, it was a photo image from my computer's downloads. Can't figure out how to attach it.

.
coon, we can't attach photos to The High Road. You will have to host your image from your computer on a photo-hosting site which will then broadcast that image 24/7 in this thread.

Google "photo hosting websites" and take your pick.

Coon, below the reply box is a button called "Go Advanced." Click that. Then scroll down a bit to the button labeled "Manage Attachments." You can upload an image from there. Note that there are file size limits, so if it's a large image, it may not upload.

If you're using Windows, you can use Paint to open the image, and resize it (use the Save As option to save it as a different file name to preserve the original image.)

Option B is to create an account on an image hosting site like tinypic (what I use) or photobucket (more popular). You can upload the image there, then figure out the URL to that image and link it using the image button. On tinypic, you'll find a list of links in the left hand column, under "Grab your code." Just grab the appropriate one from the list by selecting the whole thing (double-click) and copy (control+c) and pasting (control+v) into your post. The second option should work. If not get the fourth option (direct link) and paste that into the dialog that pops up when you hit the image button instead.

They finally caught the bastards. Now to see if they can keep them in jail...

Johannesburg - A group of seven men who were caught on camera robbing three people in a car on the M2 on-ramp in Crown Mines, have been arrested, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
The men were arrested in Midrand, Alexandra and Ga-Rankuwa in the early hours of Wednesday morning, spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said.
A Chinese man, his wife and sister were robbed on May 31 when the robbers veered in front of his vehicle on the on-ramp, forcing him to brake.
"One armed suspect, pointed them with a firearm and instructed them to get out of the vehicle. He told them to lie on the road as the suspect's accomplices robbed them of three iPhones and R3 000 in cash," Mogale said.

Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and a Porche watch, during the arrests.
A video of the incident was recorded by a dashboard-mounted camera in the victims' car. It was posted on the Facebook account of Anton Koen on June 1.
Koen wrote: "PLEASE CIRCULATE AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. Lets get their faces out their [sic] so the police can either catch or hopefully kill them."
The video was widely circulated on social media and viewed by more than 20 000 people on YouTube.
Shortly after getting onto the M2 East on-ramp off Main Reef Road, the white Jetta the attackers are travelling in stops in front of the victim's car.
Four men, all armed, leap from the Jetta and disappear off camera to the side of the victims' car. One of the robbers, wearing a purple T-shirt, a cap and gloves, gestures at motorists and appears to force them to stop.
Mogale said investigations were underway to ascertain whether the group was linked to any other crimes.

Thresh hold braking to stop with more distance between me and the ambushing vehicle. Then pull around on the left hand side and try to hit as many as I can so I take less fire as I drive (rapidly) away.

This problem requires a driving solution not a shooting solution.

4x4 on, throttle wide open, 400ft lbs of torque from my F150 would push that Passat like a cardboard box. And kill anyone that was unlucky enough to be in front of my bumper or under my 35" mud tires.

My vehicle is my first weapon I would use in a vehicle defense situation. If someone hops out of their car pointing anything at me I'm going to put my boot through the floor. Simple as that.
