I am going to be staying in South Carolina for about the next 6 months to work. I am a resident of Georgia and I am well aware that SC and GA do not reciprocate. Would there be any issue with me being able to keep my gun in my apartment there to protect myself.

You should be good. If you take it out of your residence you have to have it in a non-visible location in your vehicle. (Glove box, console, trunk, etc) This DOES NOT include concealed on your person.

Nope, none at all.

How about if I am carrying it from my apartment to the car or the car to the range when I am going to the range

^ You should be covered under this SC Statute:

SECTION 23-31-230. Carrying concealed weapons between automobile and accommodation.

Notwithstanding any provision of law, any person may carry a concealable weapon from an automobile or other motorized conveyance to a room or other accommodation he has rented and upon which an accommodations tax has been paid.

HISTORY: 1996 Act No. 464, Section 14.

Moving to and from the vehicle you're ok.

Once you're in the vehicle it has to be in a "two step" container. IE, something that requires that you activate a latch, and then open it. Gloveboxes, center consoles, trunks, etc all pass this test. It can be kept loaded in those areas.

Concealed carry doesn't reciprocate with GA as noted, and SC does not honor any non-resident permits.

Open carry is not allowed except while hunting or fishing (or driving to/from your place of hunting or fishing) with a valid license.

You're fine to keep the gun loaded in your residence and we have castle doctrine.
