South Dakota Pheasant Trip Recap
Spent the last two days hunting up and around the Gann Valley. Fantastic weather - 55 degrees and sunny (perhaps there is such a thing as global warming, if so we were loving it) and our party of 20 (plus 7 dogs) limited out on WILD birds both days by 1:30 (60 birds each day).
If you've not been to South Dakota, I highly recommend it. Saw two big mulies today and while standing as a blocker on a food plot we jumped about the nicest trophy whitetail I've ever seen. Easily 250+ lb 6 year old, with massive heavy well developed 12 or 13 typical point antlers (couldn't really count them as he was headed full speed at me). He ran past us about 10 feet to my right - and all I had was an over under with #5 bird shot.
Sunrise on the Missouri River
Driving the food plot
Two birds on the combine
Close Up - These are wild, not farm raised, birds (we actually shot one farm raised bird - you can identify them by the pierced beak)
Back of the pickup
The Missouri River
