Southern Illinois v.s. Northern Illinois

The major reason these Southern Illinois counties went for Rod the Terrible is Unions. I'd guess that way over half of the households are led by a union represented wage earner. These people are foolish enough to believe the BS the unions feed them.

We are also getting an influx of new residents from "up north". Most are retirees and "horsemen". They tend to bring their political views with them (along with their crappy attitudes). They think the entire state should be Chicago.

There is no doubt about it, we are getting the government the majority voted for.

I'd like to see Ohio split into two states, north and south. Take Columbus and everything south of I-70, and let the BARWC's form their own little god-fearing state. Let those of us who believe in ALL 10 amendments in the BOR have our own state, without interference from the southerners.

I went to SIU in Carbondale after living in the suburbs of Chicago. Now I am in Bloomington-Normal to finish up my college degree. Grad school will be somewhere out of state with nice gun laws and warm.

Hey, at least you don't live less than a mile into Cook County. :cuss:

I am right on the dividing line between Will and Cook. So close yet so far.

I am still in college at ISU, I plan on moving to Indiana as soon as I get the money. I'll commute to Chicago for work, but I am done living in this state.

I live 30 mins west of Chi. Weird but I actually like it here. Maybe it's the very nice nightlife and beautiful women, maybe its the fact my family and my MMA school are here. I joined the ISRA to try to help fight the "less than well informed gun laws" of my home state. I must be okay with IL cuz we also have an estate in AZ where the gun laws are amazing to me. Is it enough for me to live there full time? Not on YOUR life. Split the state? Never going to happen. Although it would be nice to not have the city run by gangsters/politicians/lefties. Again never going to happen. Fight the good fight or leave. Whining does nothing for anyone. Just because someone is from northern IL and they like it doesn't mean they are a lefty liberal. There are much worse places to be. Ask my buddy who swore he would leave here. Then when he got back from Iraq, he doesn't think it's so bad anymore. Sorry had to get that out :neener:

Amen! I think that goes for people who write off the state as well. What they don't realize is that if Illinois falls their state could be next . .heck, some of the people who I talk to in Montana and Idaho tell stories of being invaded by people with a california attitude and it affects their local laws. Look at what's happened in Colorado over the last 5-10 years.

I think if every gun owner in Illinois who cares about these things would volunteer to help out friendly political campaigns and donate say 1 weekend a month to it that we could turn things around, but most people would rather just bitch and feel powerless. For anyone who actually lives here in Illinois and who's complaining about the laws, ask yourself what you did about SB1007 . .did you call your Senator when it was in the senate? Did you call your house rep? Did you write any letters? Did you call the sponsors of the bill to discuss it with them? When you got blown off by the person answering the phone did you keep calling back and politely leaving your #? Just curious.

Regards,
Dave

I live in a rural county half way between St Louis and Springfield. Hunting is a way of life around here. People from all over the country come here to hunt.

A neighboring county passed a resolution to not enforce anti second amendment laws. Several other counties including mine are working on it including allowing concealed carry. I know its all huff and puff from us but maybe the state will get the message.

It looks like the anti's have figured out a good game plan. Divide and concur always works. SB1007 exempts LE and competition shooters so they have no reason to fight it. Hunters do not see a need for semi auto assault rifles and semi auto pistols. Since hunters, LE, and competition shooters do not have a dog in this fight it has met little resistance. Next year they came come back with an amendment or another bill to get rid of the grandfathered mags.

Instead of big sweeping bills it would work better if they just take their time and ban a little every year.

Hold out some hope for the unions, friend. I'm IBEW and I can guarantee you the vast majority of my local are hardcore gun nuts.

Example: My General Chairman, the GC for another craft and myself were in a meeting regarding a disciplinary investigation where I was a witness to the incident. Once the interview was over we started talking CCW and "who's carrying what."

I'm a union members myself (LIUNA). It's not that the unions are anti-gun, it's the fact that every union dime possible goes to the Democrats. The union leadership is willing to blindly go along with anything the Democrats want. If that means banning guns, they will be fine with it.

Oh Man, do we HAVE to refight the %$#*& war again? When do we agree that we are allies this time around. Everyone's Great-Great-Grandad had a flag planted with honor this past weekend. And I don't mean that in any flippant or less than literal way. That is as it should forever be. Past is past, and it was as it was.

But we have to find a way to connect today, and now I'm sounding like Jesse J., but we must. Oh, we must.

Lets pretend we all live in Indiana--they seem to get it right for the midwest on RKBA- and act accordingly.

I'm not trying to fight another War of Northern Aggression.

We don't live in Indiana and we shouldn't pretend we do. We need to fight to bring Indiana-esqe 2A laws to Illinois. Denying the problem won't cure it.

+1 on what Hypnogator stated. I lived in Illinois and now live in Washington State. Both States are ruled by the damn liberal Cities, i.e., Chicago and Seattle. Get rid of the Urban "Democratic" Political Machine and you will find both states have good, conservative, pro 2nd Admendment citizens.

I was born and raised in Evanston (Cook County), went to college at U of I in Champaign, got my undergraduate and Masters degrees from there and moved to Texas. I won't move back to Illinois with the current laws and attitudes towards the 2nd Amendment. I value my freedom and right to defend myself too much!

It saddens me to see how Cook County has put the shackles on the 2nd Amendment there.

I lived five years in St Clair county, courtesy of the Air Farce. My FOID looked a lot like the "waffenschein" registration cards I had to carry in Deutschland/USAFE. Moving to Mississippi solved that nightmare. My Communist sibling lives at Lake Zurich, Upstate. He and Durbin kill Marines. As a Marine Dad, he and I don't "get along". Illinois might take a clue from Deutschland, where large urban centers -- like Hamburg and Berlin -- are separate, CONFINED, political entities.:fire:
