Isn't that a universal truth? When someone has a problem they seek information. They find forums and other means by which to complain or seek answers. The satisfied customers have no need for this and are often silent.
Yeah, it sure is. This is why I occasionally make it a point to talk to a customer service rep's manager when they've done a really GOOD job, because otherwise all they hear is how terrible someone did something or other.

I disagree. I, and others, frequently sing the praises of companies with GREAT customer service. Sure, complainers are more common, but compliments on boards for companies are frequent.

Yes, I also agree that SOG's surcharge is an unethical business practice. Another reason I won't use them. It's deceptive.

"... that there is a percentage fee added on for credit card sales. I thought this was against the "rules" merchants have to follow for cards. "

it is. that's why stores call it a "cash discount"
technically they are not charging you more to use a CC, they are giving you a discount for paying with cash.

you say tomAto, he says toMAHto

Most sellers on Gunbroker do the 3% charge as well. I was under the impression that this was a common practice? In any case it rarely ever amounts to more than ten dollars, so I don't hold that against anyone. It's really a question of how much your time and patience are worth, considering that it takes significantly longer to process a check or money order..

There was a time several years back when "SOG" was used among our kind (C&R People) as a bad verb ... as in making references to "getting SOGed".

I was SOGed on a few occasions and decided then to only buy items from them on which I was fairly sure that they couldn't/wouldn't screw-up.

Hopefully they have improved since then. After reading reports on what some folks had actually received, I ordered a few TT-33 variants from them last summer with no subsequent issues.

I've done business with SOG as a C&R and 01FFL.
Always had great service, the girls are always very polite and pleasant.

Maybe your attitude caused their impolite response?

SOG is a "Distributor" they are willing to sell to C&R's and even non-FFL's (Ammo etc.) which is not always the case. Many distributors will not accept C&R's period.

They typically deal with dealers who appreciate the "Cash Discount".
Their pricing structure is geared more toward "Dealers" than individuals.
Their policies and pricing are clearly stated in their flyers and online, always read the fine print.

I have found that they overrate the conditions of the guns they sell. If you order from them avoid the handpick fee as you won't get any better of a condition gun. Use the handpick only if you want a particular code/mark selected. They do not check the bores as they told me "we aren't gunsmiths". They only look at the exterior because the bores are sometimes plugged w/ cosmo & they don't clean them.

And be aware they only sell "non-corossive" ammunition. Yeah, right. Funny how all the other vendors selling the same ammo warn you that it is corossive, but SOG's is magically not so...

I did get a very nice 91/30 from them & one heck of a deal on an Argentine 45.

I've ordered from SOG on a couple of occasions; ammunition and other accessories, no guns.

I've had no problems and the customer service representatives have always been friendly and helpful.

A lot of the dealers in my area charge extra if you use a credit card, so I wasn't too surprised when they told me there would be a surcharge. I sent my order in by mail with a check instead; the stamp was cheaper than the credit card surcharge.

I got the ammo and it was packaged as expected and doesn't look corroded or anything.
Look, if you are going to charge for a credit card just tell me- don't be sneaky about it. LOL "read the fine print" yeah right, everyone who has read through every cable/satellite/cell phone contract raise your hands. It isn't like a mortgage here I was buying some freaking ammo. So for a sneaky $5 smack in the mouth it cost them a potentially decent customer.

Over the years, I've ordered about a dozen firearms from SOG. I've also ordered multiple (possibly 20 or more) orders for ammunition and various parts.

I've never had a problem with them. In a more recent order, I asked for handpick of a P64 and specified a manufacture date. I received a like-new P64 with the requested manufacture date.

My only beef with SOG is their tendency to describe known corrosive ammunition as "non corrosive". It's one thing to forgo mention of ammunition as being corrosive, but to state it to be non-corrosive when it's not is a bit shady.

Overall, I like SOG as I've always been dealt with fairly by them, just as I have been J&G, AIM, Impact Guns, Centerfire Systems and those of the ilk.
