What are these selling for in local gun stores? I got a quote on one yesterday and want to know if I should haggle a bit.

I bought a lightly used 2" SP with the box and papers about 2 mos. ago for $259.00. Locks up tight. The only way I could tell it was used is the dark circles
around the chamber mouths and a turn ring.

"I bought a lightly used 2" SP with the box and papers about 2 mos. ago for $259.00."

That's the kind of deal I'm looking for right there, friends and neighbors.

I bought a brand new in box SP101 .357 DA only(spurless hammer version) at a gunshow for $269 plus tax.

The dealer had quite a few of these, and when asked about the low price, stated that he had ordered a bunch of regular and da only SP101 revolvers. That the spurred hammer versions sold quite well, and he about had to beg to sell the spurless hammer revolvers!!? He just wanted them out of his inventory so he could order more standard models.

The gunshow dealer recomended a Hogue mono-grip, and sold me that as well.

Hard to believe the spurless hammer versions wouldn't sell well!

Thats been a number of years ago, maybe 2004 or 2003.

Be careful! I got to own the little Ruger for about two hours, and my wifle saw it! She asked to see it after seeing me put the Hogue grip on it, said it was "comfy", then asked for the revolver! I mean asked for it like to keep it!!

Not too much I could do but just let her have it! I've seen it like maybe twice since then!

I bought mine used for $350 and considered it a deal, but where I lived at the time SP101s are in fairly high demand. Many people carry them.

Around here, at the local shows, gunstores and pawnshops in the greater Seattle area, the used .357 models with a 2.25" barrel seem to go anywhere from $ 325 to 400. I don't see a lot of the spurless hammer models, but they generally go for $ 25 or so higher than a spurred hammer model. Also of note, is that I just don't see a whole lot of used SP-101s, in comparison to the plentiful supply of used S&W snubby revolvers up here. I think this tends to keep the Ruger prices up.

I am often amazed at the local WAC shows to see some of the vendors, separated not more than 50 feet apart, selling the exact same handgun with anywhere from a $ 25 to $ 75 price differential. This applies to firearms in general, not just the SP-101.

And boy, if I could find a new SP-101 for $ 269, I would buy two or three of them just to stock up. If I could find a good used one for $ 250, I would snatch it up. When I see new SP-101s in retail stores, it is usually for $ 450 to 500. In the Seattle area, we don't have the 'big box' gunstores that serve to keep the prices down. A Cabela's opened just last month in Lacey, but it is a 140 mile round trip and $ 20 in gas for me to get there. We have no Bass Pro or Gander Mountain, and the few Sportsman's Warehouse stores seem to carry way more S&W revolvers than Rugers.

I bought the one for $259 at GM. I had bought one before at another shop for $250. So apparently that is/was a reasonable cost for a used SP.
Now a new DAO for $269? I'd a dislocated my shoulder reaching for my wallet.;)

Hi,
I can maybe give some insight into this.
Gun prices have risen so much that guns purchased from the distributor three months earlier can have a price difference of around $50.
The prices we were charging retail just a few months ago are now the prices we are paying wholesale.
So somebody that only does only local shows and didn't sell their gun earlier in the year may still have the old price tag which could be significantly less expensive than somebody that just purchased from the distributor.

Have a great day!

My wife says it was like 2002 when she demanded my new SP101 for herself. So the $269 price is not all that current! If I remember, the same dealer had the spurred hammer guns priced like $349 or $359. He only had the DA only SP's on sale.

When ever it was, the price was the cheapest I had seen the little Rugers, and I did about dis-locate my shoulder reaching for my wallet, even though I didn't really want a DA version myself!

410 from Gemini Customs last year...cheaper than anything around Ca and I saved on shipping the gun to Marc for the work I wanted.

Just bought new 2.25" spurless at Sportsman's :) Warehouse for $430.

P.S. I'd check it out carefully before buying.

One I looked at had waivy rifling. Showed it to the store smith; he commented "Yep. It's not a SIG-SAUER barrel..."

Another speciment had a crown that looked like it was made with a straight chisel... I mean, the crown is supposed to be polished. If not polished then at least smooth. At least somewhat smooth, right?... But tool marks on the crown?!

Don't get me wrong - I really like these revolvers and still bought one. Just have to spend time checking them out.

At the gunshow here in knoxville this past weekend I saw the 2 1/4" barrel new go from between $455 and $479.

Just found a new 2.25" spurless for $399 shipped with fees included.

My local FFL dealer charges $15, so that's the least expensive new SP101 I've yet to find.

hmmmmmmmm.....

they sell them for 400 bucks at the shop i go to, you cant go wrong with a used ruger though they are built like tanks anyways
