I have been following the current thread - hot topic - on ILS on S&W revolvers. Something caught my eye - reference to internal locks on Ruger revolvers. Guess I have been away in a monastery - this is the first I have heard of Ruger internal locks. So , after church I need to dig the SP101 out of the safe , remove the wooden Hogues , and check it out. What am I looking for? Do all models have the ILS?

None of the steel DA Ruger revolvers have internal locks.

None of the steel-framed Ruger DA revolvers ever had an internal lock.
Security-Six, GP, SP, Reds & Super Reds.

And thank God for that DPris!

It's one of the reasons why a S&W 686 was NOT my first double action revolver! :)

Ruger has incorporated internal locks in some of their single action models - with absolutely no problems being reported. They are located in the grip frame under the stocks, and cannot be used unless the revolver owner drills a hole through the grip panel to access the lock, which is completely hidden from view. I have yet to see or hear of anyone actually doing this.

Like Taurus, I consider the Ruger lock to be of no concern. Neither company has had any reported failures, and they present no cosmetic issues.

My views concerning the S&W lock have little to do with the lock itself, but rather that it was (and is) a part of a much larger package of unrelated changes that I would prefer to avoid.

Denis - The key in your reply was DA ; I get that now , thanks.

Why did Ruger target the SA revolvers for internal locks?

Good question.
Ask 'em. :)
Even those are all gone now.
