I have recently reacquired a Mauser Espanol Modelo 1893 and a Mauser Argentine Modelo 1891.

Several years back I purchased a few hundred rounds of 7.65x53 Argentine ammo at a gun show and fired the ammo out of each weapon (If I remember correctly-I could swear though) with no problems.

Today, the m1893 will not chamber the 7.65x 53 and from what I can find out on the web, the Spanish m1893 should chamber a 7x57 round. Is this possible?

Was I just lucky not to injure myself years back, or is my memory shot? Are the two types of ammo close enough to have chambered? I would assume not. But you know what that can lead to. Of course, there are no designations of caliber type stamped on either weapon.

Any help would be great before I go out and buy 7x57

The Spanish M1893 is indeed chambered for the 7x57 round. I doubt that the 7.65x53 round fit in it several years ago, so it is likely that your memory is faulty in thinking that you fired it in that rifle.

Ok, sounds reasonable. However, I will call the buddy that was with me years ago to confirm my thinking. Thanks for the quick response.

Your 1893 Spanish Mauser should definitely be 7x57. Since you are still here and don't remember being blown up, I'd say the empiric evidence is that you DIDN'T fire 7.65x53 out of an 1893 before. Now it is possible that you had one of the later model short rifles that was actually chambered in 8x57 and the bolt held the case tight enough that you could shoot the incorrect ammo but I don't think you'd want to make a practice of it.

the m1893 is a much longer weapon that the shorter Argentine 1891 Mauser. the M1893 appears to be a full length battle rifle, marked k2527 Manufactura Loewe Berlin with a star of David

OK, confirmed. Disregard. I was in error apparently. My buddy has no recollection of the Espanol Mauser 1893, so it likely did not fire the 7.65x 53 Argentine. Thanks for all the help. this site is great info resource. Moderator feel free to remove this post.
