spare parts?

in a long-term SHTF scenario what spare parts should i have my for my M1A??

how many rounds can shoot from my M1A before i need to replace any parts??

and what should i zero my M1A at?

i'll be using 147gr FMJ and 150gr soft points in it.

I keep a spare stock, op rod, complete bolt assembly, complete trigger assembly, guide, springs, hammer and firing pin. I also have the bolt dismounting tools and gas wrench. This isn't for SHTF, rather this is extra crap I gathered up in my build.

I've seen them run 10k rounds without a failure, and that's pretty much what they were designed to do.

I don't know as I've ever seen an op rod worn to the point where it would no longer function. All things wear out, but I have no idea at what point this particular piece fails. I've seen them bent and I've seen them broken, especially on garands.

You should join warrifles.com. Those are the M14 experts. Walt and Clint from Fulton Armory can answer just about everything.

I have no idea what my parts cache cost. I built the rifle over a period of several years in the 1990's. I bought, sold and swapped mostly NOS USGI parts to get all the pieces I thought I would need to build two rifles. I built one rifle and lack only a receiver, barrel and a few bits from building another. In today's market USGI parts bring a premium. I paid about $40/ea for 5 bolt assemblies (and sold/traded 3 of them). Last I checked, they were running about $70.00 and may be more now.

The only spare parts you may ever need are :

Trigger pin.
ejector assy.
Extractor assy.
Firing pin.
Hammer.


Buying whole trigger groups, bolts and op-rods is an extreme waste of $ esp at the outrageous price these parts bring today.
