Just looking for some advice, what would you guys recommend for gallery style shooting requiring 6/5 quick reloads, I can pick from a 357, 44 or 45acp revolvers.
357 and 44 both need speed loaders whilst the 45 uses full moonclips.

What are the pro's and con's to these methods?

I've used a Taurus .357 and reloaded singulary, nice but it was too slow and I already have .44mag reloading dies etc so I'm kinda swaying that way, but quick reloads with moon clips does look appealing and moonclips are A LOT cheaper than speed loaders over here as well?

Any thoughts:confused:

For me moon clips are faster to reload. ther is no twisting or other hardware to deal with, just eject the old clip and drop in the new one. And your spent brass is easy to pickup, you only have to bend over once to get six cases and a clip. :)

Moonclips are a lot cheaper than speedloaders. For reloading the gun, moonclips are likely to be faster because the ejected empties come out as a unit, and there's no "release" move to separate live rounds from the speedloader.

Preparing for the match, loading live rounds into the moonclips is more of a pain than loading up some speedloaders.

If the purpose of the contest is to shoot, reload, and shoot again, and speed is important, I'd go with moonclips. If the only "44" thing you have is dies, you can pick up some .45acp dies.

All the above BS is from watching TV. None of my revolvers are "moonclip capable". I have (and practice with) a few speedloaders.

Good luck in your matches.

Curious as to where you are managing to do your handgun shooting.

Moonies are almost always faster - and with ball ammo almost guarantee a quick insertion - even better is the combined dump on ejection which precludes that irritating potential hang-up of one empty with speedloading.

Re speedloaders tho - IMO the Safariland makes for much less fumble and hassle compared with HKS - the rounds are held tighter and stay better aligned - and the release is faster than a knob twist like HKS.

Moonclips are not cheaper than speed loaders if you take into account the $80-$100 you're going to pay to have your cylinder machined to take them (this is a no issue for .45acp or any other auto cartridge loaded wheel gun).
