My Wife is thrilled with her new LCR .38. I wanna get her a couple speed loaders mostly for range use. Seems to be a lot of conflict about which ones work best and I saw a demonstration on you Tube of the HKS 36 that looks more frustrating than "speed".

The 5 Star J2 series looks the best which seems natural as they say that the J2 is designed to actually work with the LCR and they are a bit more pricy. But what's another $10 for speed loaders?

Opinions from guys who actually have the LCR .38 and use speed loaders is solicited. I realize that speed strips are better for CC but we'll address that later.

Thanks in advance!!

I can tell you from first hand experience that the #36 HKS is not going to work well. My last duty/off-duty qualification I decided to give it a try and I learned that loading loose rounds was actually faster.

Ditto! I bought an HKS 36 for my LCR. And it's
Been sitting in the gunsafe. Unused. If you jimmy it just so it'll load the cylinder. But there is no speed about it.

I found there are at least 2 different HKS 36 speedloaders. I have both. One holds the cartridges tightly and the other holds them so loose they rattle. The rattler works good with the LCR, the tight one not so good. Both are okay with the J frame.

Well...I'm passing on the HKS. I ordered a pair of 5 Star J2's and we'll see how it goes when they get here.

I'll give them a test and report back as there seems to be a lack of good information about which speed loaders work well in the LCR.

I've got a bunch of the 5 Stars for mine and my wife's LCRs. They are extremely well made (and purty too). They work very well and I would highly recommend them.

Thanks, Dan. I kinda jumped the gun and ordered the 5 Star before I got much input as it seems (via Internet research which can be dead wrong at times...) as if it's the best option in speed loaders for the LCR.

Saw a video of a guy futzing and jiggling the HKS offerings to the point it'd be easier to just load 'em out of a pocket and then saw him drop the 5 Star right in there, twist the knob and close the cylinder.

Looked on the 5 Star site and just went "Well, there we go" :D

I have been a little nervous about jumping the gun (Ha!) and ordering but for the money they want it's basically a no brainer. Wow their product looks nice in pix...

I'm thinking of trying one out for the heck of it, and maybe as a Stocking stuffer for Christmas. The Ruger site sells the HKS for the 357, the Safariland looks interesting, but they only show a Dan Wesson model for the 357, not sure if that would work with the LCR 357. It's $3 more than the HKS. I'm not sure how much I'm into speed shooting, just thought it'd be interesting to try out.
