I bought a Speedfeed stock approx 9 months ago for my Mossberg 590. Installed it per manufacturer's recommended procedures and used it approx 8 -9 range trips. Yesterday I took my 590 out of the safe put it butt down on the work bench to take it apart for cleaning and noticed the recoil pad was "loose". Upon closer inspection the plastic inserts that the screw the recoil pad to the butt plate were seperated from the pad.
I always thought therse were high speed. But this shotgun has really been babied. I'm contacting Speedfeed (Safariland) today to see if they'll make this right but honestly the construction of the feed tubes and springs looked and felt less than robust when I installed them. Guess I should have listened to that inner voice. Guess I'll put the factory stock back on.

Factory stock, LimbSaver pad, and a butt cuff. I've been blasting heavy loads for awhile with this combo and it ain't broke yet.

Since Safariland's acquisition of Speedfeed, their quality has gone down. The last IV-4 stock I bought had molding marks all over it, and the Limbsaver pad had changed from a full rubber pad into a hybrid pad with 1/2 plastic and 1/2 rubber.

You simply call Speedfeed and they send you a new pad. This was a major issue and I had Seven weapons I built for Utica PD in the Detroit area that I installed the Speedfeed I stock on. There were being kept in racks in the cars and the within weeks the pads were pushed away from the stock. The heat of being in the vehicle sped this up. I called Armor Holdings and found that that they have corrected the problem by a redesign of the pad and it now comes with a polymer plate on the base of the pad. I asked the Rep to Call Chief Reeves at that department and fix this ASAP. He called him right after I hung up and sent Utica PD Seven new pads.

Call them and tell them the pad is being pushed away from the stock by the magazine tube springs and they will send you a new pad. Issue resolved.

I don't judge a company as much by the problems with their product but how the resolve those problems. Speedfeed, which is now Safari Land, took care of this issue.

I did call speedfeed and explained the problem. They did know about the problem. I guess they are going to send me a new and improved recoil pad. They made the whole process pretty simple. I think the point I was trying to make is this is a pretty obvious defect. The gun mags rave about these stocks. I bought it w/o ever trying one, based on reputation. I have never been impressed w/ the sturdiness of the stock since I got it and I usually don't use things that don't hold up w/ any of my weapons. Notice I said weapons. True, I can shoot it w/o the recoil pad but would it have failed when I needed it? How distracting would it have been in competition or life or death when It failed? Safariland makes top notch police gear. It oughta be right or they should take responsibility and recall it. OK, I'm stepping down off my soap box.

Bill the issue is a couple years old so the one you got must have been "new old Stock". I am glad they stepped up and are sending you the improved pad. I don't use the I or III as don't really need the shell holders. I use the IV-S and like another member stated there are mold marks on the newer ones. You can see the out line on the IV's and where they would cut out to make it a III. Same with the II's and I's. These marks don't bother me as mine weapons are shooters not lookers and are going to get worse marks then those but I can see where some guys would not like to start out like that. I have several quality stock options available to me but still prefer the Speedfeed IV-s with R3 pad on my go to 870.
