I am new to this forum and have noticed something stange. I am a member of Archery Talk and although there are fewer members run almost exactly as this one. I love them both. On AT there is a low percentage of guests viewing at any given time. Here there are more guests than members almost always. Are there spies amoung us?:uhoh:

Just curious.

Not neccesarily. I spend probably one-half to two-thirds of my time here not logged in. I lurk and read, and if I find I want to make several replys to several topics, then I log on.

Just because the voices in your head tell you they're out to get you doesn't mean they aren't.

I don't think there's any need for paranoia. Consider that there are millions upon millions of guns in this country. If you were interested in firearms it wouldn't take you long to get here where if you had any sense you'd lay low, read lots, use the search function, read lots more and never have to say a word or join. Most everything of value has been said long ago we just keep churning the pot.

cosine

You don't have it set to remember you for a reason?

No. Whenever I step away from my computer, I log off whatever I was doing that required a login. Just my habit, I guess. I don't find it cumbersome to re-login whenever I come back here and find something I want to reply to.

Edit: About the guests - I lurked here for over six months before I joined. There possibly could be a lot of that going on. People just come to read, but don't register and login.

Im not sure if here is like other forums but probley is but web bots show up as guests also and can be quite high in #

I hate those things they are always buzzing around and they get in the windows ..... Never mind I thought he said Flies

spies among us

I lurk on several forums. I just read and learn. If I feel like saying something, I'll register and post. I don't need to be accepted by any one. Hope this doesn't make me a spy.:uhoh:

Ah, I thought this was going to be about "spies" in the sense that people seem to be talking about on other forums devoted to stuff like videogames... people who register and post a lot, biding their time until the signal is given to heap praises on some company's new product.

Although if a gun manufacturer paid a marketing firm to have its people do that, who could tell? We kind of do it ourselves already.

(X vs Y? Buy both!)

Yes and no.

I'm sure there are "spies". Somebody out there just hoping to get some 'ammunition' from all the loony gun toters out there. I'm afraid though that they're probably dissapointed in us most the time. If not, then they should be. While there are a lot of nuts here (like Preacherman :) ), there really aren't many actual loonys.

I think the vast majority of "guests" are either lurkers, or those of us like cosine who aren't logged in 100% of the time when they're online.

BATFE, FBI, DNC, VPC, Brady goons ... they all lurk here (and a handful try to instigate stuff here too).

But why should we care ... we're not doing anything illegal, immoral, unethical or dirty :D

Guaranteed there are.

During the period in which I was a California lobbyist for CCRKBA (late 2003 to mid-'05) the grabbers in California would regularly try and use reports of THR conversations as fodder against us. Didn't work all that well but I can damned well confirm they tried.

Pffft, spies ... If you really believe internet spies are following you, or following us as a collective, I've got a "tin foil" bridge to sell you.
