I bought a brand new Sig P239 with night sights a year ago and after shooting it 300 times a big gouge appeared in the aluminum rail. I sent pic to Sig and they asked me to send it in for repair. I was told the gun would be replaced, so I aked them to end me the grips I had on the gun I sent in. I got my new gun todday and was not very happy with what I found:

Standard sights vs. the tritiums I sent in.
Plastic guide rod vs. the metal I sent in.
Hollow trigger vs. the solid I sent in.
No houge grips.

The sights are the only thing I'm really upset about, but the whole gun feels a lot cheaper.... I guess things really were too good to be true.

I let them know about the sights and grips (the guide rod and trigger are just cost cuts I guess), but it costs me $25 + 3 weeks everytime I send it in.

I wouldn't be happy either! As a Sig Fan I personally don't care for the plastic Guide rod in any of my new Sig purchases and quickly replaced them. I would be on the phone about the Sights though. I'm sure they will make it right.

I assumed I'd be happy when I got it (before I got it) because I a new gun, but the gun I sent them was almost new and had much nicer parts on it. It wasn't my fault they made the original gun with a burr on the slide.

The problem with stripping it down is they need to see what caused the problem. I didn't take the grips off because I was told it wa going to be repaired, not replaced. No matter what I do, I am going to end up with a cheaper gun or at least $50 out of pocket for ffl fees (plus weeks of no big caliber carry gun and driving time).

That really bites a big one. I would not be happy at all and I would not settle either. I would insist that they either A) pay to have me ship the gun back and have them put the better parts on it, or B) send me those parts of the old gun so I could install them. If they declined I would not stop calling, writing, and protesting to them that I would tell EVERYBODY about my experience with Sig.

IMO it's not right for a company to replace your warrantied product with a lesser product. Period. If anything they should give you a better product or some other incentive for your trouble.

Hope you can work it out.

Shawn

Wow! thats a big screw up. Isn't exactly rocket science to see that the gun they gave you was nothing like the one you sent in.

Maybe they sent the wrong gun to the wrong address. Someone will post about all the cool "free" options they just got on a pistol from Sig!

Try to go up the food chain at CZ. Something is wrong with that picture.

The one dealing I had with them, they sent me a mailing label, fixed the gun and mailed it back to me in less than a week.

They should "restore" yours the same way.

A few questions:
Does anybody know if ALL P239 slides are stainless? My original said stainless on it, but the new one doesn't say it anywhere...

The "mechinism" (all the parts in the frame behind the mag cavity) looks different than my original. I don't know how, just looks different. It's still SA/DA, but the DA feels a little shorter. Do they make different versions of their SA/DA action?

This is turning into quite the cluster. The gun I sent in was easily my favorite, the on I got back doesn't give me that feeling. I am going to be emailing my Sig CS contact tonight about making this right.

I received a very timely response from Sig this morning. She said that my serial number indicated factory installed standard sights and the night sights were installed after leaving the factory (I bought the gun brand new with Sig Night Sights). The plastic guide rod and hollow trigger are standard parts now and I will not be receiving any replacement for them. All slides are stainless, but don't say it on the slide anymore. She said that she will be talking with the gunsmith who worked on my gun and will be shipping night sights to me to have installed (or install myself it it's not too hard).

If I can get the sights installed for relatively cheaply, I think I will happy with this exchange. Perhaps I will have to find an aftermarket guide rod to replace the plastic one.

The new Sig is a shadow of the old company. When they moved production to the US the quality was left behind in Germany. I had numerous problems with my new P250. The 45 had numerous problems and was replaced by a 40 that required a return trip to Sig. I had to pay the FFL fees. I am through with Sig.

I have heard about Glock and Glock armorers doing the same thing... taking non-glock, aftermarket, parts off and replacing them with factory Glock parts... WHY would you send in your gun with custom mods in place? Did you expect they would put all of your parts on the new gun?

PERHAPS the gun came new with all of those things in which case they did NOT replace your gun with the equal product. I would not let it go.. neither should you.

I bought the gun brand new from a very in-town trusted source. It still had the factory Sig paperwork (like the band around the grip that you have to cut off) and was clearly oiled like it had come from the factory. All the parts were factory original (except the grips). I don't understand when somebody would have the chance to install Sig Night Sights on a gun somewhere between the factory and the gun shop...

does anybody know if it's a simple drift out, drift in operation to install Sig sights?

That makes sense for liability reasons. They have to ensure that whatever gun leaves their shop is in factory safe condition. But they should include whatever parts they removed in the shipment.

The OP should have gotten his grips and night sites included with his new gun. Not sure the trigger is a big deal. But if it is he should have mentioned it to them, and they should have included it.

After. I say again. AFTER you receive the night sights, I would call back and make a stink about getting the other parts. I don't care what is standard NOW. I would explain to them that those parts, which are of greater quality were on the firearm that I purchased and I expect to have a gun that is of the same or better quality. Remind them that the only reason you had to return the gun that you purchased is because they sold a sub-standard product. I would also kindly explain to them that you communicate with a lot of people in the gun community and that those people can either hear what great CS Sig has or how horribly that their CS replaced your warrantied product with one of lesser quality.

Then again, that is just me. I DEMAND great CS and if I do not receive it, then everyone in that company will know my name. Lol.

Best of luck,

Shawn

"Should" being the keyword... They DIDNT!...(speaking of friend's experiences with Glock and Glock armorers and obviously now Sig as well...) the parts disappeared time after time. The simple truth is most people would just deal with it and suck up the expense for the sights and grips (or whatever else part was missing) rather than make a big deal of it.. Therefore, whoever worked on the gun just got paid for the work and a slightly used set of grips, night sights, guide rod, recoil spring...etc to boot... People are not honest.

Used a SIG Sight Pusher on my P229R-they were tight, but no problems.

So someone removed the factory grips and put on houges before you bought it? Why didn't you put the factory grips on when you sent it in? I would want my grips back, thats like stealing.

What about the gouge in the frame? Did they fix that?

Humm, he got a NIB gun in return/back, and I bet they CPO his ex gun with the 3-dot night sights and Hogue grips UNLESS he calls them and politely ask for the same thing back he sent in..

Should have sent 2 copies, same report, of said gun's problems and "items", namely "sights", grips", ss rod, etc., with the gun as a measure of recourse in the event.. and more so, to prevent what happened

But, they should follow-up and find his old gun and then either send him the items or offer to pay for shipping his gun back and put his old/new parts back on the NIB gun they sent him and do it in 2 weeks or less..

And, for anyone: Learn from this

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Sig is a crappy company to deal with...especially considering their pricepoint heck they make S&W look good! (and they are pretty sorry!!) ...they (Sig) have made some truly great weapons over the years...I'm sure they still do...but life is too short to do business with butt-holes! I like the P220 a lot...but I never seem to get excited about buying one....because sooner or later I'd need something...and it's like pulling teeth getting anything out of them if you're not an authorized dealer (who agrees to stock a couple grand in parts and buy a certain amount of guns a years...you don't get to pick all of them either!....so yeah....no sig dealers here in "mayberry" AL. because nobody is going to sell that many overpriced "german chevys" (LOL) May as well buy a Kia or a Suzuki as drive a Sig around here!! ;)

If you'll pardon my example ;)

Perfect example of why not to ever sell and older Sig. New Sigs coming out of Exter are not the same as they used to be. What he got today is now the standard. :(

The real issue is how their stock guns have changed in a year, makes me wonder what's up for the future.

When I received my P239 NIB back in 2000, I was surprised to find the plastic guide rod. I called them with my concerns and they sent me out a metal one for free. Since then the times have changed, and SIG should probably change their slogan...
