I ordered a case of 7.62x39 back in March/April or so. They said it's backordered till 8/09. since the price was good I had plenty of 7.62x39, I said fine.

Today I got my 4th backorder change. It was changed from August to Nov., then to Jan, now to March of 2010.

They apparently have to keep on contacting me to see if I really wanted to continue with the backorder, but I'm smelling BS. Perhaps they just don't want to sell it to me for that price, if they can sell it to someone else for more.

Has anyone experienced this with them??
I'm going to check around on prices to see if it's getting better than what I purchased for, because at this rate, I'll be getting them in 2011.

I went through that 3 times with them on some 7mag ammo. They finally had some Federal show up for the same price do I canceled the Remington and went with that. I really think it is just the supply issue.

i ordered a jacket last June-July 08 they told me it was back ordered to September 09 ,tried to buy other things with very poor results, there just lacking in all dept ,the only good thing i got was a pare of boots,i think they just have pitchers of the stuff there trying to sale....?

What kind of 7.62x39 did you order?

Its funny, because I have a friend who ordered a case of Wolf from them back around the same timeframe because the price was good, but I declined. June comes about and I'm browsing their website, and see they have case of Wolf in stock. So I cave and ordered it.

I get my ammo a few days later. I talked to him shortly after that, told him I ordered some, and he said he hadn't gotten his yet.

funny you mention it....I ordered some Wolf ammo... and I see some wolf ammo on their site, just more expensive.

That's why I say I smell BS. I think those who ordered at the cheapest price is going to the bottom of the list or something.

I have a boat on backorder from SG - I needed to replace the defective one I had that was the cause of a tragic accident in which I incurred great loss of personal property............... ;)

I've made several purchases from SG since November. Almost every ammo order was placed in backorder status. I think you'll get your ammo, but it may be a while. I've had to wait almost 4 months on a couple of orders. I assume that a backorder is essentially a "wait list." If you have a lot of folks ahead of you on the list, it's going to take longer to get you product. On the bright side, SG doesn't bill your credit card until they ship the order - if you happen upon ammo somewhere else, you can always cancel your spot on the SG wait list.

I have used them off and on for the last 4 years or so. I suggest if you see the order is not in stock don't place one. If you don't mind waiting a very long time then by all means place it you will get it eventually. Don't get me wrong you don't have to wait along time for most of the back orders. It's just that the possibility is there. I've only had this problem with Ammo and that's only been in the last 2 years.

I've placed lots of backorders with Sportsman's Guide. They are great for backorders b/c they still honor stuff, even when wholesale costs are rising and they are selling stuff at a loss. I've backorderd and recieved about 8k rounds of 7.62x39 from this so far this year, for $202-216 per case. They 4 pay plan stuff AFTER its shipped, so there is no reason not to place a backorder and lock in a price. You get charged when it ships, and there are no additional shipping costs when the orders ship seperate down the line. I have several cases left, 223, and a some handgun rounds on backorder. They figured out they were getting screwed and raised prices to normal levels. I'm not sure how they charge you when you order part in stock and part of stock items, I always order seperate if that is the case.
