Greetings,

After how many rounds should I replace the nested spring assembly in my SA Micro Compact GI .45? The factory manual does not mention it, but I have seen folks talk about other 3" 1911 needing new springs after 500 rounds. Does hand cycling the action count in this tally?

Thanks,

Hunter

Hand cycling doesn't count in the tally as far as I'm concerned...but do you really count that closely? I swapped my Springfield Micro Compact dual recoil spring (Seecamp) setup for the Kimber 3" dual recoil spring system because the Kimber let me replace just the two springs (by Wolff) while the original Springfield system required the purchase of the entire "module" with springs, rod, etc. as one unit.

My spring change schedule.

I don't shoot a 3" gun, but this method has always worked for me.

Buy a spare spring right now. You'll need one on hand anyway. Once in a while, every few range sessions, compare the old with the new. When it's short by a coil or more, swap it out and order another spare. I tend to go overboard and order them a dozen at a time (saves on shipping) but the point is still the same.
