Without getting into which brand is best, do you any of you have hands on
experience with this pistol? I have several .45's, but have a hankering for a
9mm on a 1911 platform. Ammo is cheaper, and far more plentiful in my area.
Only interested in the Springfield 5inch as listed above for function, reliability,
etc. Any input?
Thanks

I think they are great and have many rounds through a loaded 45 and loaded 9. Quality is OK but I would not pick the loaded series again. TRP/ Operator are much better made for the price (although their prices are out of control too) although i don't think they are offered in 9mm. In general, the 9mm 1911 is a great platform imo

If you can find a deal on a 9mm loaded, pull the trigger...can't understand the Springer 1911 market though. The loaded models that used to be mid 600's are going for 800+. Mils specs going for 600+ now
Almost sways you too look for a top end model in the 1000+ range.

Appreciate the comeback, sidearmed. I know the 1911 platform was made for the .45 caliber pistol. I'm also aware most of the others (that is the polymer and the berettas, glock etc ) got in the game with the 9mm long before springer and the colts. I just like the 1911 setup. But I'm wondering if Springfield has got it's act together with the 9mm. I don't want to spend 7 or 8 hundred dollars for something to work on all the time.
I'll still be shooting the .45's that I have, but the cost of ammo for the 9mm is about half, and much more readily available. Anyone else want to chime in, feel free. I want some experienced advice before my trip to the gunstore.

The loaded 9 should be plenty reliable. I think their fit and finish could be a little bit better for an $800 weapon. You need to realize that it is not a glock so you might have some breakin malfunctions the first 500 rds or so. All loaded models I have shot have been very reliable after you break them in.
If they aren't, you've got arguably the best customer service in the business behind you.

You should really like the 1911 9mm. Much cheaper to shoot, lower recoil and you can trick them out to your hearts desire.

Thanks again, sidearmed. Another question: Does the Springer 9mm have the double recoil spring setup, or the single like the .45?
And if so, can you change it out to a single spring?
