Basically S-A is releasing 19 new items (not sure where the "50" part of 1950 comes from) over the next few days.

First few days were a let down:

XD-S® 3.3" .40SW (same gun, new caliber)
XD® Mod.2™ Sub-Compact Flat Dark Earth (same gun, new color)
1911 Range Officer® Stainless Steel (same gun, new finish/metal)
1911 Loaded w/ Crimson Trace® LASERGRIPS® (same gun, new grips)
XD(M)® 4.5" Threaded Barrel .45ACP Flat Dark Earth (same gun, new color, threaded barrel)
1911 Range Officer® Operator® -- really the closest thing to a new gun so far.

I'm looking forward to what's still yet to come, just sort of surprised what they call "new products".

And I want to track down one of the 1911 Range Officer® Operator® models... sounds like a good mix of tactical and practical.

The RO Operator looks like a nice example of a 1911 rail gun, if you're into that sort of thing. With SHOT coming up we should be seeing lots of new stuff over the next several days.

In my opinion Springfield could improve the XDm 3.8 compact by making the grip about 1/4 longer, let's call it a plus one. I prefer flat mag bases but could use a tad more space for my pinky. This would make the pistol a lot more controllable and reduce the palm pinch on the shooting hand when slamming a fresh magazine home. Yes they sell it with the longer magazine with the boot but that mag is a tad large for concealed carry.

I just can't get into plastic pistols. I've shot a few glocks and they are quite accurate but I don't like the feel of plastic.

Today's gun:

XD-S® 3.3" w/ Crimson Trace® LASERGUARD® (same gun, new laser)

I'll agree... not a huge fan of their XD series, but I love their 1911's!

Curios about the "launch" title.

What exactly is the "1950" aspect of the New Product Launch?

I was expecting a "1950" pistol or maybe rifle.

Todd.

And today we have the 5" mod 2. Sure wish they'd release the mod 2 without the dumbass grip zone label on the grip.

Range Officer Operator is a stupid name. It operates the Range Officers? Like a Range Manager? That's ..almost not terrible. Ooh, I got one: Range Owner/Operator. It's tactical, and you can pwn t3h n00bs.

Can I just win one already!

I really don't care if it has a doofy name. I've got three Springfeild's and no problems. Doofy name doesn't phase me one bit. It's just a name.

Maybe they will have a special introductory price where you can buy all of them for $1950. Man that would be sweet, but ain't gonna happen.

Agreed, and the same thing goes for their looks. For practical purposes, Springfield's pistols are an exceptional value considering their build quality, fit and finish, and performance.

I think because they kind of out-did Glock at Glock's thing it's drawn a lot of negative attention from people who don't even own one.

I guess at least we can be thankful that it does not have "GRIPZONE" permanently etched in it somewhere.

Still, "Range Officer" implying training and "Operator" implying tactical use is a bit silly. Why not throw "Extreme" or "Boots on the Ground" in there?... "Black Ops"?

Yep, and I was a fan before the XD thing. My mil specs 1911A1 is a rock. It was the quality of that 1911A1 combined with "hey! striker fired polymer that's not a Glock!" which made me want an XD in the first place. I figured I just couldn't possibly be too disappointed in it, and low and behold, it exceeded expectations.

Is it just me or does it seem like black powder shooting and competition is rather popular in Europe these days?

So nothing "really" new, just a bunch of new options for the guns they already have. Color me unimpressed.

But the Operator RO looks pretty good, maybe as good as a Colt's Rail Gun.

I thought they previously had a 1911 Range Officer and a 1911 Operator. I figured it was a combo of the two.

I like the XD series overall. You can still find the original XD 45 new and they were under $400 at the last gun show I went to. The XDm pistols are nice, but the grip is a bit too rounded off. I find I like the grip to be squared up a little bit. On the other hand, 19+1 of 9mm is awesome.

I was hoping to see more "new" pistols, but it is just slight variations so far. I guess I shouldn't expect 19 completely new products.

Yep, so far nothing "really" new... I guess the 5" Mod 2. is the closest thing to a new gun.

Color me unimpressed as well... personally not a fan of the XD series (prefer Walther PPQ/PPS series and S&W M&P/Shield series better).

Still love their 1911's though!

Now it's something in the way of a black rifle. I tried to read the description but my eyes glazed over partway into the tacticool jargon.
