Could've been the grip texture but more the size and I couldn't find the right finger/trigger placement to be consistently accurate. I think it just didn't fit ME. It was just a frustrating gun.

One thing that I checked prior to making the Mod.2 purchase was that it takes the standard "Mod.1" mags. To quickly do that I went to the Springfield Armory website to check that they were selling the same part# 5rd mags for both pistols. Yes.

I also have one/each 6rd & 7rd mags for the "Mod.1" ... and found that they will not insert in the Mod.2. Actually, the "X-TENSION" sleeves (a tad too long) simply keep them from locking-in.

OTOH, the Mod.2 6d magazine does not "fit" (it is not shaped to complement the Mod.1) the Mod.1 pistol but it is short enough to allow the mag to lock-in and is functional despite being rather funky-looking installed in the Mod.1.

I have emailed SA about the possible existence of replacement "X-TENSION" sleeves for these. I will include an EDIT to this post when they respond.

Fast response received ...

We only have XDS MOD 2 extension sleeves for the 6 round magazine. We do not make a 7 round MOD 2 sleeve. You can order that sleeve by calling our customer service department. Some people have used a Dremil tool to shave off a bit of the original 7 round magazine sleeve to fit their XDS MOD 2 pistols.

Before I bought my SC XD I called SA to ask what the difference was between the two and it's grip texture, trigger guard is rounded, fiber optic sights, I think that was it. So for me why spend $100.+ when the gun is the same basic gun. Ok you get the extra mag and the upgrade package now but still. I bought two extra mags (13 and a pinky ex. and a 16. Still not close to the MSRP of the Mod 2. Again I didn't want all the stuff in the upgrade I have holsters and bags and mag holders and hats and tooth brushes and socks,etc.

UPDATE:

Yesterday I received my Instant Gear Up packet from SA and it included not only what I listed above but they shipped that stuff inside another of those nice "suitcases" like the one in which my new XDs was delivered (minus foam, docs & accessories). :)

... and the 3 magazines are all 6-rounders (I already have more than enough of the 5s). :):)

I guess, in the same way that I have a collection of empty beer cans until the next time the recycling gets picked up. :p
