Springfield Armory SA-35...I'm Out.

I haven't even got to handle one yet, but I can tell you "I'm out"...at least in the short term. I was in a shop today and asked if they had had any come through. I was told that two had come through and sold instantly. He also told me that he would wait because they were bringing $1,200. I told him that that was insane and that there was a pretty nice Browning on consignment at the shop I work at for $979, so, why would I pay $1,200 for a $700 SA clone? Have people lost their minds?
Absolutely! AKs are just as bad.

Recently, I cleaned my firearms and put them away...indefinitely.
Sorry the current inflation climate has dampened your shooting enthusiasm.

It's been quite a while since I've shot due to back issues but I've enjoyed dry fire exercises, reorganizing my supplies, etc.
I also somewhat shifted my interest a little with a new gun and it's been fun setting it up.
Chin up, our friend.

Exactly. If I could spend $1200 on a Hi-Power right now, I'd get a used Browning. That's not in my budget, so I'll wait. If the price of the SA-35 comes down out of the stratosphere, I'll probably buy one.

That's where I'm at. Last gun show I went to, prolly 3 years ago, there was a pristine '60's Belgian for $1200... and I would have bought it if $1200 wasn't every cent I had on me. The SA-35 solves some problems, but only at retail or less. I never buy the first of anything, anyway, including guns, tech, automobiles, or what have you.

So how is the SA-35 and retailers selling those any different than the new Colt revolvers or any other firearm that will prove to be popular? I suspect that the dealers who are having financial problems because of the shortages need more profit on things they can get than very little profit on things they can't get. Back before the perfect storm my dealer said his profit was about 10% on any new firearm he sold. He said he made more money on transfers than new firearms. I know several local gun stores that have gone out of business in the last few years. Times are tough and with run away inflation will get tougher.

I've managed to shoot almost every week since the pandemic because I've been on a crusade for about 10 years to build up my supply of components to prepare for what just happened. I haven't been able to find some things that I wish I had but I have everything I need to stay afloat.

Don't get me wrong, I don't blame anyone for selling them for $1,200 if they can get that. That's Capitalism and I'm a fan. I just thought it strange that people will pay the premium when they can get the real deal for around the same money if they look atound.

It's all part of the hunt. Getting out and looking. Being ready and acting when opportunity pops up.

Anyone can throw money at a problem, try to buy happiness and outspend others. The thrill for me is hunting for, finding, and closing. Time is still on my side, although I suppose some day I will have to figure out how many range days I have left. I can fret over the things that seem out of reach, or I can enjoy what I have and possibly parlay something little used into something that now intrigues me.

My thoughts exactly. Here is my T-Series I got for $700 from a guy who's Dad passed. He wanted someone to own it who would love it like his dad did more than he wanted the money. 46514B6B-CBDA-42CB-8EC3-D705B3D58B72.jpeg

6 months from now these will be $600 OTD guns. I have a no obligation order in for one now at $650 + shipping. I will be OTD including transfer for about $695. That is about as high a premium as I am willing to pay. For me it really is more curiosity than anything else. I want to see if it is 100% parts compatible with OEM FN parts and other aftermarket parts. Unless it blows me away it will most likely be a catch and release.

I can't image it being better than this.

WV, You and I are of a like mind. I'm interested in the SA-35 simply as a BHP enthusiast. I like your phrase of "catch and release". There is no burning desire here to own one long-term, only to examine one closely, statically and dynamically.

I can not imagine in any sense that the SA is a significantly better gun than my gently re-worked 90's era Mk III. I could be wrong, but over a cup of coffee this morning, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I carried, shot, and owned several HiPowers over the decades. None of these so called “known issues” with the design ever bothered me a whit. The first was a well worn nazi made example with plenty of pitting and a dark bore, and poorly chrome plated by its previous owner… it shot great with any load I put in it. Same with the Chinese Inglis I used for a while, and of course the FN C model from 1973. Even the FEG and Argentine FM clones always worked.
The mag disconnect didn’t bother me, I never took them out. The small safety was ok, once you got used to it, and had a low probability of being knocked off unintentionally in the holster.
But, I’m all Glock now, the G17 and G26 fill my 9mm needs perfectly, so I’m leaving the $1200 SA clone for you guys.

The SA 35 has potential as a reintroduced Hi Power variant with its upgrades, at its original msrp price point.

Hopefully pricing will normalize, and we’ll move past this race to the top situation.

We shall see, and I shall wait.

Sure thing. Just as the Colt’s pythons that were 2x MSRP for nearly two years post intro. Local LGS says their is titanic demand for this new Hi Power. There was a gentleman of advanced age asking for one just this afternoon when I was there.

Right and if you are smart you can get a Python for MSRP or a little less. Colts $$ problems and their sale to CZ slowed down production and kept the market on the Python tight. In the end like I said they have dropped in price as well.

The SA-35 is hot right now give it time something new and shiny will come along and get peoples attention. I am not worried because I have plenty of FNs to occupy me until they reach the level they should. The demand right now is artificial.

Man @JCooperfan1911 you crack me up.

Yep! Price has already ticked up again. They were down to 1K. Now back to $1300. Of course it will depend a lot on how fast SA can crank them out. I like to see some shops getting a chance to make a few bucks. A LOT of them really took a hit during the great "lets lock down for two weeks to flatten the curve". :cuss:
Stuff like this give those who barely hung on a chance to make some bank and many of them need it.

I’ve got 0 issues with it personally. Some call it price gouging. I call it capitalism. It’s the buyers responsibility to know the value of the item they’re buying no matter what it is, and if they’re comfortable paying the price, it’s a non issue.

$1200 seems crazy but if they want to spend it on a HP clone more power to them. I bought my Tisas Regent BR9 HP clone in 2018 for $440 and I have had no problems with it at all.

I remember when this price-scalping happened with Seecamp LWS-32 pistols, years ago. Back then, it was an anomaly, though not unprecedented. Today, it is the norm, and not just with firearms and other collectible and status items.
