Springfield EMP or HK PSP?

I currently have both a 9mm Springfield EMP and a Chrome HK PSP. Both cost me about the same and both are serve the same role.

Springfield EMP

Pros: Lighter, I shoot this gun better under rapid fire, mags are cheap (have 3), my only 1911

Cons: Does not feed Hornady Critical Defense (my favorite round)


HK PSP

Pros: 100% reliable if clean, gorgeous, plenty of history behind it, was my dream gun for a few years, very accurate out to distance

Cons: gets dirty quickly, gets hot quickly, euro mag release, bit heavier/bigger



Two guns with the same role, finances are forcing me to get rid of one, which would you keep?

If you sell the P7, you might have a hard time finding another as they have been long out of production. The EMP is a current production item. I'd personally sell the S&W 4442 before either the P7 or EMP

At current values, you'll likely have a greater return on the EMP

This is the most important consideration. If you ever feel like you might want to replace the gun you sell, it would likely be far easier with the EMP.

I hit keep the EMP without thinking, shoulda hit keep both. Keep and carry the EMP, keep the HK as a collectors item.

I had an EMP. It was great. When it worked.

I notice you didn't mention 'reliability' as one of the pros to the EMP.

My vote: keep the H&K.

Sell the EMP as it more readily replaceable than the P7.

I have an EMP and a P7. I enjoy the EMP a bit more. The heat buildup of the P7 is annoying. However, I agree that getting another P7 in the condition yours is in could be tough and/or expensive. I'd sell the EMP for the time being. The P7 is a great pistol and you'll probably only cry a little when you sell the EMP. When and if I have to sell one or both of mine, it won't be pretty

I voted keep both. My take on guns is like Warren Buffet's take on stocks, Buy and Hold. Get a weekend job, start packing your lunch instead of eating out, stop skoking or drinking if you do either. In other words, find soemwhere else to trim the fat out of your budget and keep the guns. I do some financial coaching. I say get rid of the fiancé and keep both.... Seriously though, if forced with such a horrible choice, I'd have to get rid of the EMP.

I'd keep the P7. Reasons have been stated.
And I'm not even a P7 fan.

Keep the P7

1) You can't replace it nearly as easily as the EMP, and there are other 1911s even if the EMP were hard to find. There are no other current production squeeze cock, fixed barrel guns.

2) The heating is only annoying at the range, but in a SD scenario you likely won't be shooting enough rounds to make this an issue.

3) No safeties to worry about other than the squeeze cocking mechanism, which is intuitive (more so than flipping off a safety, anyway, IMO).

Sell the revolver first. Then the EMP, mainly because you state that the EMP has feed problems with some ammo. The EMP should be fixed if you keep it. Makes no sense to keep guns that might be used for sd/hd that are not 100%. Picky on one ammo brand usually means picky on others.
