What are your opinions or experiences on the Springfield EMP and the Rohrbaugh 9mm for concealed carry? I'm familiar with Springfield's good reputation but I know nothing about Rohrbaugh or their products. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Would you be comfortable with either for cc as opposed to a S&W 642 or other small frame revolver?

My EMP is real nice, but not much more concealable than my Ultra CDP II.

I have never seen, much less held, a Rohrbaugh, but they look real interesting.

the Rohrbaugh won't take +P by the way, though I am not exclusively a +P 9mm guy myself. I use both standard pressure 147s and +P 124s and 115s.

the Springfield EMP and the Rohrbaugh 9mm? That's like asking, "A Ferrari or a Ford Pinto?" Of course the EMP wins hand down everytime! Are you kidding me?

Belt carry or pocket carry? I have a Rohrbaugh and carry it everyday in my front pocket. I've carried a 442 the same way and the R9 is a better fit for me even though they weigh about the same. Okay, the 442 is listed at 15.8 oz. As long as I'm looking...

R9 - 3.7" H, 5.2" L, 14.3 oz. w/empty mag

EMP - 5" H, 6.5" L, 26 oz. w/empty mag

I didn't see the width measurements on the sites when I snagged the numbers, but I didn't linger and search for them.

If I wanted to pocket carry a 23 oz. gun, and I definitey don't unless it's a coat pocket, I'd use my S&W 649.

Pinto? With that comparison I could only guess that you have never had one in your hands. Speaking of hands I guess that all depends on whos hands they are. If there mine I pick the Rohrbaugh. I flat out love these suckers. Just had one worked over at the custom shop. Don't get me wrong, I like the EMP to, but for me I choose the Rohrbaugh. Pocket carry is so easy with one of the R9s.

I''d go with the EMP, but I think comparing a R9 to a pinto is a little harsh

Owned both....got shed of the EMP...lacked quality

To me it all comes down to how you are going to carry it. The R9 is a true pocket 9mm.

The EMP must ride on the belt.

Anyone who calls a R9 a Pinto has never held one. They are higher quality than the EMP. Everyone praises the Springer, which is a nice piece, but it is not a R9 in terms of hand fitting and workmanship.

Model-: PPS
Caliber-: 9mm
Length: 6.3"
Height: 4.4"
Overall Width/Width without slidestop lever and takedown buttons: 1.04"/.91"
Barrel Length: 3.2"
Sight Radius: 5.4"
Weight (without Mag): 19.4 oz.
Standard Magazine Weight: 1.9 oz.
Action: Striker Fire Action, Pre-Cocked
Trigger Pull: 6.1 lbs.
Frame: Black Polymer

Again I think this is an apples to oranges comparison. The PPS is a neat little gun but it is not a pocket pistol IMHO.

How is the recoil on the Rohrbaugh R9? What price do they normally sell for? Where would one pick up an R9? What level of accuracy would I expect at 15 yards?

Thanks!

:)

Tiny little gun so its a little nasty. I would not head to the range and shoot 200 rounds but then again I don't do that with my 642 either.

WildAlaska at Wild West guns is a great dealer. Tell him Rellascout sent you.

I lost all interest in the R9 after shooting it. Unpleasant does not quite cover it. The Kahr PM9 is not that much bigger and is much more shootable. I'd go with the Kahr over either one of those guns any day.

The R9 is easier to carry and more difficult to shoot accurately. The EMP is an exceptional shooter but not as easy to carry.

You're not going to be able to carry the EMP in a pocket holster so if that is the goal then your answer is the R9. If you are considering an IWB holster then the EMP would be the way to go.

The R9 is a quality pistol but it would be good to shoot one before buying. They are not everyone's cup of tea and neither of these pistols is inexpensive so you will want to make sure it is meeting your expectations before purchasing.

I've never even touched an EMP, but I have fired a Rohrbaugh several times and I will never do so again. It is the only gun I've ever fired with painful recoil. It really hurt me.

I shot my R9 101 times the first time out and I won't do that again. It started beating up my trigger finger as it wore me down. Why 101? I was planning to shoot up the 3rd box of ammo, but got smart and quit after the first round.

So now I just shoot a few mags and go on to something else.

Yes, it'll smack you a little, but I guess I'm just old and insensitive.

Neither one of those will fit in any of the front pockets on my slacks. The R9 does.

I mean, okay, they'll go in if I shove them and don't want to walk, bend or squat, but that's hardly what I call fitting. They might work okay in my bib overalls, but I don't need a pocket gun when I'm wearing them.

John,
I select jeans, in part, for pocket size/shape. Same for walking shorts. Criteria for slacks include a secondary pocket in a pocket for a Colt Mustang to slip into. Since I retired, jeans and shorts are sufficient for about 360 days a year.
