What do you think about Springfields ILS on thier 1911s? My Mil-Spec has a creepy trigger pull and I've heard that replacing their mainspring housing with a standard one dramatically improves the trigger pull. So I'm thinking of replacing mine.

Convesely, Brownells sells the Springfield ILS. Some people may actually opt to install one!

What do you think. Swap it or keep it?

Changing out the ILS will not likely affect your trigger pull much. Depending on the mainspring you use, it can reduce the pull weight a little; mine came down about half a pound. It will not do anything to creep or roughness. Mine was pretty crisp to start with.

The ILS has a long mainspring cap with a groove in it for the lock to engage. This leaves less room for a mainspring so they use a short but very stiff spring. No other functional difference. A regular MSH or even the ILS with standard cap and spring can use a softer spring with smoother travel to reduce the load on the sear engagement, that is the only source of improvement there. Creep and grit are in the hammer and sear.
