So tax return time is here, and I figured I need a 1911. I've been looking around and CDNN has a list of Springfields on their online catalog on sale. All of the prices are on request so I'm going to call tomorrow and find out what they want for them.

Right now I really want a SA MilSpec Stainless because for the extra $100 or so above the GI model, you get the throated barrel, lowered/ flared ejection port, beveled mag well, etc.

Just wondering how those of you out there with hands-on experience with the MilSpec liked them?

Also wondering if anyone has experience buying firearms through CDNN, and if you do how is their customer service and ease of buying?

Thanks for the info.

Save up and spend the money on the Loaded model because you're going to want what it has anyway and it'll cost you less in the long run. I'm telling you from personal experience.

I agree with Edmond, although I do like the lack of forward slide serrations.

I enjoy my Mil-spec stainless very much. Bone stock. Never purchased from CDNN, but have come very close on a number of occasions. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them.

CDNN also has the loaded stainless on the same page. I'll ask what they want for that one, and if the price is right I'll pick it up for the extras. I'm not too worried about upgrading the MilSpec. I like the look of a GI model, especially the rear serrations only, and the only thing I'd change if I bought it would be the mainspring housing because I prefer a flat backstrap. Thanks for the responses so far guys!

i'm in almost the same boat. Pardon my stupidity and laziness, but what does the Loaded add?

Answer: Cooling fins on the slide front

Got both-- both great, just like the looks of the MIL-SPEC

the lowend mil spec pistols are not fitted that well, even the loaded and not that accurate.

The least grade you should go with in the SA in the range officer you can get them for $750 right now or a STI trojan or spartan is a lot better buy.

Even the remington r1 is more accurate than the springfield mil spec guns.

Does anyone know how much more the Loaded stainless would be than the Milspec stainless so I know how much more I'd have to dish out? One thing I really want is the gun to be all stainless.

loaded stainless with fixed sight is about $725-$750 go to gunbroker.com you can look up all current market prices.

I've had (and still have) just one SA Mil-Spec. Its a great 1911. It was one of a limited run of factory nickle plated Mil-Specs in .38 Super caliber. Seems to me to be a nicely made and fitted 1911.

I'd buy one without hesitation.

I have an older blued Loaded and a newer Mil-Spec stainless.

The Loaded was bought used and had some custom work done prior to me purchasing the gun. Magwell, front strap checkering etc. So I can't give a good comparison for a factory Loaded vs factory Mil-Spec. I don't care for the Loaded front slide serrations, but you learn to live with them.

I bought the Mil-Spec new. It has minimal slide to frame play, decent trigger. Other than a real stiff thumb safety I have no complaints from it. Also I should add that my Milspec was assembled in the U.S. vs Brazil, not sure if there's a difference in fitment between the two. But most are made and assembled in Brazil.

Here are two auction pics of mine. The Loaded looks nicer than in the pic.

I have a Stainless Milspec and love it. Furthermore, I will disagree about buying the Loaded model. I like my guns to be simple. I have no need for the extra stuff on the Loaded and as a matter of fact there are some features that I dislike. My sole complaint about my MilSpec was the front sight was razor sharp. An email
and few phone calls to Springfield later and they had me
ship it to them for free and fixed it. Turnaround was less than two
weeks.

That's a sweet looking milspec C&L!
Thanks! Its a sweet shooter also.
You see the SA .38 supers come up for sale in parkerized sometimes, but never in nickel.
Its the only one I've seen. These were featured in one of the Gun Magazines a few years ago when they came out. I have a copy...somewhere. I don't know how many were made. I found it used and snatched it up. They were sold with imitation pearl grips.

I too prefer not to have extra doo dads on 1911's like front slide serrations, ambi safety, etc.

My experience is very different from this statement.

Just getting night sights installed on the MilSpec will cost you $200. You guys can do the math yourself.

Spend a little more upfront or spend a lot more later.

The lo0aded is WELL worth the money, as I said in another thread about this same thing....the parts ALONE you get on a Loaded cost more to buy FOR the GI.....then you either have to knwo how to install and fit them yourself, or pay a gunsmith to do that which is cost prohibitive. It is a fun process though I am going thru right now on a 1911 (all stainless) I just got in trade. I need to do a magwwell, ambi safety and arched mainspring housing.

Local bloke who also sold me his super nice MN for 75 clams, his first Baby is was due that week,.....he needed fast money and I stepped up.
