i have a stainless mil-spec, i second the notion save a few days and buy the Range officer. you can find them for about $700. the one i looked at was real tight, Springfield claims its as good as the TRP with out the extra goodies, me personally, i don't like fcs or ambi safty. if you just love the look of the mil-spec, which i do you can make it a real shooter with out to much work, or money with a smith.

I have a Springfield Armory Mil Spec with the serial number prefix NM that was made in 1996. The frame and slide were forged in Brazil. The weapon was assembled and fitted in Genesco, IL.

The first time I shot it, I purposely loaded it with Federal Hydra Shok .230 grain .45 ACP Hollow Point "flying ashtray" fodder. It never bobbled and has not since then.

It is not fancy but it is accurate and then some at combat ranges and well made. I am not certain about the newer versions of this handgun but mine is excellent for a no-frills plane Jane 1911. There is nothing inferior about it.
