My old 1911 was stolen so I have to start thinking about a new one to get. Which do you prefer, a Springfield or a Kimber? Feel free to leave comments about 1911s (with a reasonable price tag) you prefer to those already mentioned in this thread.

I've never been a Kimber fan. I saw way to many with issues. But some people swear by them. I have two Springfields and am very happy with both of them. I've heard a lot of good about the Ruger and Remington 1911s.

Springfield. My Kimbers were problematic at best, and Kimber has not a clue what customer service means.. Springers worked right the first and every time, and when I lost a stock screw, Springfield dropped 2 in the mail, no charge no nonsense..

SA, if for no other reason than their customer service. I found Kimber's CS to be somewhat arrogant and condescending.

Also, with SA your cash goes mostly for the gun rather than for advertising.

Yes, I've owned both.

Between the two, I would go with one from Springfield Armory.

Other than those two, my first choice would be something by Colt.

I own two springfields, but extra ammo with the money saved, plus they have outstanding customer service.

Another vote for Springfield. Customer service is second to none, and their custom shop has fair pricing and turnaround time.

.

I have a Springfield, love it. If I could afford one, I'd get a Colt too.

Shot my friend's Kimber, didn't feel great. But a lot of people love them.

Springfield.

I own a Loaded Stainless and GI model Springfields, and a Kimber Ultra Raptor II Stainless. I love them all. A lot. Get a Springfield and spend the money you "saved" on mags and ammo.

I own a couple Kimbers.....my older brother owns one, my younger brother owns one and I have several friends who own them. All have been excellent examples.

The number of 1911's in production these days is astounding. I was actually browsing through some today. I'd be willing to bet that if you stick to the major players in the market you will get a fine pistol.

I've had such good luck with Springers, it would tough for me to change.
Friend of mine has a Kimber, it has been a stellar shooter for him. 'll bet it's had 10,000 rounds thru it.

Id go with kimber. my kimber classic target has been flawless.
the only time i ever had a problem was 14 years after I bought it, the extractor lost tension but that took 14 years of regular shooting for that to happen. I just bent it back into shape and it just keeps chugging.

I wore out two hammers and a sear on an early Kimber. MIM parts have not held up as well as the forged parts. I took it to Camp Perry and the Marines did a trigger job, the Armorer told me the sear was worn, so I walked over to the Springfield Armory Pavilion and bought a forged SA sear. Works great.

Outside of the MIM parts on a Kimber, the rest of the pistol is fine and wonderful.

Buy by price. The SA is a fine pistol in its own right.

I owned both, now I only have Kimbers.

What drove my crazy on my Springfield was that the thumb safety never had that positive "click" like I get on my Kimbers. Felt like I was going to break it.

Over the years I have run at least 100,000 rds through 2 Kimbers and 4 Springfields. I still have all 4 Springfields. Neither Kimber was 100% with JHP's. All of the Springfields are. (The Kim's were more accurate and well finished, but were only consistently reliable with FMJ. ) YMMV
